Perhaps a podcast ... hey I don't know it is worth the venture even if you do only a handful and find out they do not work. Yeah of course it is quote on quote late in the game of doing podcasts, but that doesn't mean it will flat out fail. Or you can even do The Herald in an audio version ... that'd be neat too. I am digging this idea a lot. We can get someone to handle the voice recording, relay it to "nrich studio" where I can add some chill elevator music and easter eggs, if you will. KAY AND/OR ANYONE ELSE: GREEN LIGHT ON THIS?

Besides, more activity gives new members more of a reason to stick around.

Well no but I've done and run two podcasts in the past (I will not do another one) however they are tons of fun to do and run and I think it will really add a new aspect to this site. Either you can get three, four people to do different segments about what the Herald of that month focused or what have you.
You can even have like a photography, coding, graphic, writing .. ect "show"
It would be really up to you what its about I think The Herald audio version could be neat so people wouldn't have to rely on coming here they can just download it and listen. Then it would come down to who records and is a show once a month really going to help. That is really the staff's decision. I don't see it as a gimmick to keep or get new members - I just see it as a new aspect to bring to the table.
And another thing is does SSD have a youtube account, I mean say if you wanted to add a tutorial then instead of having to add it to one of 500 accounts you could have a SSD account.

Maybe expand the art group to include separate "leagues" for different member skill levels?
What's better than more art?

Video tutorials are the way forward. Would it take a lot of effort to implement that as part of the site as opposed to through youtube? Using audio and video mediums gives a lot more personality than just a lot of text etc. and it would probably make users (new and old) feel more comfortable to be honest.

Explain to me how and I'll do it. Currently the video tuts we have been given are far too large for youtube and while i could put them on the website i dont know how nor could I imaging them not zapping all of our bandwidth

Explain to me how and I'll do it. Currently the video tuts we have been given are far too large for youtube and while i could put them on the website i dont know how nor could I imaging them not zapping all of our bandwidth To big as far as what, minutes, yes the regular youtube account has a limit of I believe ten minutes however that is a perfect length for a video tutorial but IF it is not if you switch you account type to a directors account you can upload longer videos. I've seen numerous people uploading full movies on youtube (they don't last long but nevertheless and that is how they do it) But in the world of tutorials I doubt anyone wants to watch more then ten minutes. Like mentioned, you need to make this forum much more personable. As a new person all you really see is text (a lot of text) that you have to read through, then you have to post and you post and you post yet nobody seems to even know you are there so they give up after awhile. A lot of people take this online stuff very serious, personally I don't give a doo doo but you know yeah. - Hell endless possiblites really

Umm, every forum has lots of text. It's not really a problem. I fail to see what you're getting at.

You can't expect to thrive on the same formula year after year after year. Yeah, SSD was an exciting bundle of assortments four years ago, but here we are, minus a lot of our favored oldies, winding up with the same thing like always. I find it funny how a little change freaks people out. "WOW YOU CAN'T DO THAT, IT GOES AGAINST OUR LIFESTYLE." No shit. That's why change exists.

''Time to break through the mold and become more than just a forum'' What is wrong with the 'mold' nothing. I'm not opposed to change, but if it ain't broke don't fix it. 'the mold' is not the reason for the problems with this forum.
