SSD has had alot of people officially leave or just stop posting over the last few months, but I don't see anyone replacing these members. We've only had a couple new people recently who have actually stuck around; ufc and Maggie. What exactly is SSD doing to attract new members?

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with Jon - as you obviously may expect. We have all these new people, yet none of them stay for more than like 10 posts.

It's strange... I've read through this thread at least twice, and I still can't seem to find any forum or website suggestions.
I'll read it once more, I might have missed them.

Hmm, nope. Still nothing.
I'll check again in the morning; I'm probably too tired to notice them right now.

Honestly, look around and notice some of the things that have been going on lately. If you were a brand new member, you probably wouldn't stick around either. In no way am I condoning that. However, the staff is trying to step up and straighten things out. You guys may not see it, but there will be some changes around here fairly soon. This community really needs to stop all the arguing, hatred, and battles with the staff and start focusing on pulling together again for the fun things that use to go on. The humorous joking, and whatnot can stay, but remember that not everyone knows when you're joking, and you also need to evaluate your chosen time of it.
I'm not saying this is the current and active members' fault. It's no one's fault, really. Everyone has contributed to the negative atmosphere around here at one time or another. Until we change this, I highly doubt many of the new members will stick around. But the cooperation of the members is needed. That doesn't mean you guys get to be stuck up about it. A good and positive attitude would be nice.
Effort on everyones part would be nice.

Here's one for you then. I suggest we do something so that we can get new members that actually stick around. Maybe more advertising, I don't know.

Advertising draws them in, it doesn't guarantee they'll stay. Our content and community is the only thing that will do that.

I see no arguments/conflicts.

There was the whole thing in the lit board. Maybe not in the recent days, but the past couple of months have been horrid with how things have been.

Well yeah, but that lit thing wasn't really conflict. Pandy cleared it up anyway.
You guys have no more excuses.

I'm not trying to make an excuse so quit going straight to that. Frankly the staff doesn't choose if the members stick around or not. We'd love them to and the staff are preparing things to change around here. The staff can draw them in, but the whole community is what keeps them around.

Why do people seem to think that the staff members have to do everything? Double take and realize that everyone here is a member of the community and can do their own part in spreading the word. So you can't post an advertising thread for the forum because your name isn't colored. Does that stop you from putting a banner in your signature? Why don't you tell your friends at school who are interested in art and graphics design? How about you post more often yourself and help out tenfold by showing you want the community to be healthy and active? You're not useless. Stop placing the blame on something other than the actual cause.

We have an advertising thread on PBS that is bumped once a day and we affiliate with larger forums and websites. I have placed advertising signatures up so that everyone can have a link to us.
If you want more advertising throw ideas my way because I'm out of them.

You're putting the staff members up on a pedestal and acting as if they should keep every little thing in line.

Perhaps a podcast ... hey I don't know it is worth the venture even if you do only a handful and find out they do not work.
Yeah of course it is quote on quote late in the game of doing podcasts, but that doesn't mean it will flat out fail. Or you can even do The Herald in an audio version ... that'd be neat too.
