Right, this better be taken into consideration. I think it's time the coding boards go. They are absolutely pointless. I challenge ANY member of the staff to tell me what purpose they serve. We do not have proficient coders leading it (and when I say that, I mean it with all respect to Dalton, but I'm comparing it to the days of James and CJ of whom I accept to pale in comparison to), our code index is an insect compared to the giants in SZ and PB Support, and our Coders Galore is almost as dead as the battle boards. Instead of wasting that much cyber space, we could use it for something which has more of a point. Like, computer assistance, etc. There are way more boards which would serve a better purpose than the coding boards.

They make Dalton feel good. In all seriousness, I think the database should be dropped and a "Computer Support" or "Tech" board added, where it is made clear that you can ask for coding-related support. I don't think we should just dump it, however, I believe something should be done. It is draining the life of the rest of the forum, The battle boards are actually semi-active. They have a few posts a day, and I try to help out.

Yeah B-Boards are coming back, but a few weeks ago it was just a ghost-town.
I agree entirely with the Tech idea.

I also agree with whats been being said. I propose we combine Code support and Coders galore, into a "Tech Board" which includes coding and tech tech on things such as iPods or electronics. Get rid of code requests. Then, maybe for a sub-board, a "Tech Support" board where you can get help with Windows, Macs, or other computer related stuff. Like, if I got am having trouble with my router, I would post in that board.
Then, I'd move code submissions as a sub-board in Code Database. But, we shouldn't get rid of Dalton. I'm not sure what he thinks, but I'm sure he would be a great Tech mod as well. He knows a lot about that stuff from what I can tell.
So, in total its 2 boards and 2 subs.

I would appreciate it you wouldn't compare him to former mods. They aren't mods now, he is and he is doing the best he can. He just got out of the hospital. Cut him some slack.

I'm not comparing him with other mods. But the mod is a huge part of it, and I'm comparing the state of the boards. Dalton is a great mod, indisputably. But he's a one man member base of those boards.
I think I can make this perfectly clear: Nobody comes to SSD for the coding boards.

I have tried to bring Activity to them.. I am just having a hard time, there isnt many people coming here nowadays that do coding. Besides that I am out of practice in clientside browser scripts. I am still proficient in the languages but havent actively used them since I was about 12. Now I am all for downsizing and removing things that arent used, and I would thoroughly enjoy offering assistance with computers and programs and other gadgets.. I am quite handy with them. But to remove me completely isnt something I would like. I worked my ass off to become the programmer I am and I worked damn hard to get this position. And you can compare me to James and CJ all you want, but at the end of the day I think some of my work surpasses there, but seeing to the fact we have no place for me to post algorithms for Physics engines and dynamic Video game AI it makes me look like I am an Idiot from time to time.

Dalton's it is not your fault ... with that said I think being so specific as only codes then you will continue to run into a problem. Changing that section to computer or electronics as a broad is a lot more organized then posting XBOX 360 HELP or My Desktop won't show this . . . again I don't think this is any sense it is Dalton's fault so don't go comparing him to the past .

It's true, the past did hold more stability to the coding area, James, CJ, HP, etc. But this is the present. Sure it may not be as active, and Dalton is a perfectly fine moderator. With that being said, I, too, agree about making the Quick Tech Help, board or whatever you may want to call it. But we shouldn't wipe out the coding section altogether. There may be more coding at SZ (<3) and PBS nowadays, but there are still the few that ask for help here and there, or even post a code.

I will agree with you here. You most definately have me there. Perhaps it is a good idea to merge a lot of the boards, but still keep a code database/index, and maybe even an open source area where you could post things like what you mentioned above. 'tis your call though.

Let me make something clear here: I'm not saying Dalton is a bad mod. Nor am I saying Dalton should be revoked of his position. Dalton isn't practised as much in client-side coding, as he himself has pointed out. If we made the transition to a primarily tech-help board, he could run those well within his abilities.

What I have now is in my abilities, It just takes me a little longer to fill them not only because of the whirlwind that is my life, but the fact that I am out of practice as well.

I don't think Dalton should be replaced, either. It's up to him, and [he] seems to want to stick around. I really think a tech board would work really well.

How about a support category . Then you could have a board for computers, one for coding, and one for General stuff. This way, the coding boards are still there for submissions, and the others can keep what they have. Then we have two new boards, creates a spot for a new mod, Dalton will have his coding boards still, and now we will have a spot for people to come for computer tech support and General tech support.
General Tech support would be for any thing from attaching a TV to your computer, to replacing the toner cartridge on a 1980's lexmark office copier.

I'm sure whoever the mods choose to mod the new boards (if anyone) they would make a good choice.

I made an invision board version of it as well. I only did it because I knew people needed help with that sort of thing, and I knew I could provide it. Even if the board does happen, I more then likely will not be the moderator, and I will more then likely post more in the board helping people then any moderator will.
