For right now, we're suspending any new battles. The administration is working on creating a new system of duels that will be launched very soon- and unfortunately for some, will work very differently from current battle board duels. We're hoping they'll promote a lot more professionalism and overall improvement in the long run.
Please bare with us while we try to get these up.
- And for those battles already finished/underway, voting may still continue. We are merely asking that no more be started.

I hope the new system is setup to have some way to quickly transfer finished battles to the voting board.

An active moderator would help greatly. Someone who is online quite a bit, and is skilled in the craft of graphics... Who has a name that starts with a T. lol

I can think of quite a few people who would be decent moderators for this board.

DS: That really isn't the system, just the activity of the mods.

but it would be nice if the "new system" was like that.

DS: That wouldn't be possible. Unless a bot was coded in PHP, and there's no other active coder around here who's willing to do that -- and I haven't been approached.
Actually, there is James..

The new system is completely different from the current one. No duel points... it's going to be a lot more about practice and taking you out of your comfort zones.
There will also be something for photography.

Sounds pretty cool. When it comes back up, I hope I'm the first one to start a battle.

There will also be something for photography. Do people really want to be taken out of their comfort zone? With the way the battle board is set up at the moment, you can do what you want and stay in your comfort zone, which surely is what people prefer, doing what they do best. The battle board isn't that active at the moment so what will happen when people are taken out of their comfort zone? [/Pessimism]

The battle board isn't that active at the moment so what will happen when people are taken out of their comfort zone? [/Pessimism] So we should continue to stick pieces of gum in the large cracked hole? I totally understand where you are coming from- and I'm working hard to full develop it into something that will allow a person to take it slow, but we have SOTW. We also have the featured image in Critique, along with some of the other features we do around the board. Competition is so overused lately that there's really little incentive. Something like a battle season - whose winner, to be completely honest, I don't even know usually... and I don't think I'm the only dense one... just makes it almost feel worthless. When there are too many competitions, no one gets the recognition they deserve. There will still be voting. And there will still be recognition- and for people who have never tried anything larger than a signature, there will be ways to compete in smaller, shorter battles than others. But at the end of the day, the new system will make people get better- and as much as people say "oh I don't know that I want to try that" - I can't express how much of a sudden growth I saw in people after some of the Community Practice's. And I will say that you can point out the time in every single art group member's history where they tried something new and finally found themselves stepping out of doing the exact same signature- exact same brushes - over and over again. And that's why they stepped it up.

*sniffs* I smell failure.
j/k... I actually really dont know what to think. People wont go out of their comfort zone to do a SOTW entry that doesnt involve a sig theyve already made, or a theme theyre not comfortable. Battle board if anything allowed people to do what they wanted. IDK, lets see how it goes. But if this battleboard change is anything like the coming of version 6, the boards will turn to ruin and basically be the herald and chillout.

if there are photo battles I suggest adding, if it's alright with jonny, him as a mod of the board. there should be a mod who knows what they're talking about when it comes to photography. Or at least one competent photographer.
