Don't just lock this because it's been suggested plenty of times. You need to do something about this, and stop making excuses.
Version 6. When the hell is it going to happen? You have put it off for over 2 years now. You have promised before it was going to happen, and then you promised you were going to give updates (when I say you, I mean SSD as a whole, or at least staff). What happened to them? Did you just stop thinking Version 6 was going to be forgotten in members?
I know exactly what you are going to respond with, so I will tell you right now.
You keep complaining about activity lows and people leaving... why is that? No, it's not the content. I'm pretty sure you guys know exactly what it is. SSD slacking off from creating a new version. Do you realize how much people like new versions? Look at forums like Nightsystem and mAsDesigns. They have changed so many versions (not saying you need to change versions frequently, just at least once a YEAR!), that they have grown popular (which imo, I believe that's the only reason Nightsystem is staying open.... even though I do also think the skin is not that great....).
I am not trying to say crap about other forums, just that you need to realize that it's time, it's been time for awhile, but SSD isn't the best thing anymore.... designers can go to forums that show they are good designers offering good designing things because they customize their forum often enough to show their skills. How amazing is SSD's skill? I would honestly say a 2. One star for being a huge hit when it came out with Version 5. The second for being able to somehow keep members after having this skin up for 3 years. I would give 2 for the great ideas (new contests, activities, herald, etc. etc.), but they just seem like they are trying to distract people away from the V6 issue.
In the F.A.Q., here, I'll quote it for you.
Exactly. Websites don't change their look. Keep the look of the website, it's nice. This is a forum, not a website, they are huge differences.
Why should you change it to give people something new to look at? 1) It attracts new audiences. 2) It makes you look like you simply don't care about getting a new design, when in fact you are a design forum. 3) Already stated, everyone knows how long you haven't changed the version, and again, it makes it look like you don't care.
Alright... own terms.... well, if you want to go by that theory, then it makes you look lazy and again, that you don't care. I don't think I need to go into that.
If you are really having trouble finding somebody to design/code it, post a thread for recruitment. I guarantee you will have so many willing people, the next version could be a community-made version.
I think I've stated enough. Have fun quoting me and listing excuses reasons for why it won't happen soon enough.

Patience is a virtue, one most of you must not inhabit.
With that said, v6 is in the works, that's been stated. Whether or not the upper staff has remembered to give details or not isn't the point. You also need to realize that sometimes the lesser details given ahead of time is better. It stops the competitors from being able to gain that knowledge to beat SSD to the punch.
It'll happen. If you guys want to be impatient and leave, well, that's your prerogative. Nobody's stopping you. Yes, we're a design forum, but just because we've run into numerous road blocks doesn't mean that the staff doesn't care.
And I must say this, there would've been a v6 about a year ago. But the test site got leaked and people were making complaints about the skin that Car had worked hard on. It was marvelous, but you all nit-picked at it. So now, you get to be patient, or there's the door. (logout button)

You also need to realize that sometimes the lesser details given ahead of time is better. It stops the competitors from being able to gain that knowledge to beat SSD to the punch. Well first of all, SSD doesn't have any competition. Its not a design forum, nobody gives a shit about SSD anymore. Tell me one new member who has joined in the last, what year? who has joined and stayed active. Surprise surprise, there is nobody. And you've been saying itl come for 3 years. We've waited 3 years, and still we're left hanging. And SSD has had plenty of opportunities to make a new V6... HP and Ass, myself and Grace. But no you decided to go to some pro forum to find a hardcore coder, and yet... nothing. No offense to Car at all, Im just giving my opinion here. It'll happen. If you guys want to be impatient and leave, well, that's your prerogative. Nobody's stopping you. Yes, we're a design forum, but just because we've run into numerous road blocks doesn't mean that the staff doesn't care. Umm, we're not being impatient. If the skin has been up for 3 months and we ask for a new version, thats impatient. If its been up for 3 years, and I repeat: years that is not being impatient. We are not the ones to blame here. And I must say this, there would've been a v6 about a year ago. But the test site got leaked and people were making complaints about the skin that Car had worked hard on. It was marvelous, but you all nit-picked at it. So now, you get to be patient, or there's the door. (logout button) Umm, wait, was that the blue skin thingy? Again, with all respect to Car: you can do much better than that. Me and Grace could have made a skin together which would blow any forum right now out of the water. I support Remixed.

Patience is a virtue, one most of you must not inhabit. I totally agree but there has to be a line drawn, how long has SSD made empty promises of the new version coming and for some reason or another delayed again and again. Patience would be tested on the most patient person, I personally can't wait to the new version ... I've been reading about it way before even I became a member. Hmmm You all better get your points across before this thread is locked or you are banned...

Patience is a virtue, one most of you must not inhabit. Everyone has been extremely patient, one which almost seems like you guys should reward with what was promised. How can we believe it's in the works? From a staff member saying it? SSD has promised a new skin for almost 2 years, don't see why anyone would believe that. Even if it is, that doesn't matter, and you are ignoring my point about the situation. And about the lesser details.... honestly, if that means no activity, and no member knowledge, then I don't see why it would matter if they did, at least the members could trust again. It may... someday... when there isn't anyone here anymore to give a new version to. Who said I was going to leave? Again, you're missing the point completely. And about road blocks.... what forum doesn't? Don't promise something that can't be done.... which SSD constantly does. Alright... never saw the skin, but okay... nit picking is what makes a forum great. If you can't see that, then you're missing more than just the point I have tried to make. Be patient? For how long? Another 3 years? Haha.... have fun thinking members are going to do that.

Firstly, you're entirely wrong. Every time someone brings this up, I tell them to go and take a look at wfigs. It has only ever had one skin, and it's barely even a skin. It has remained one of the top ProBoards for at least 5 years.
You're also wrong about websites being different to forums. This is a website, in case you haven't noticed. Giving it another name doesn't change that. Yes; this is a design community. A community. In other words, the community is supposed to be designing things. We provide the forum, you provide the content. The amount of times we've run competitions only to have no one enter, or enter absolute shit that is supposed to be good, is unbelievable.
A new skin only attracts new members initially; it's the content the members fill the boards with that keep them. That's why people still go to wfigs, and that's why people still come here. The only thing a new skin does is bring in more people that will never post regularly, and give existing members another reason to complain because it's not what they wanted. This skin is irrelevant when it comes to the majority of members leaving: the reason they left was because we stopped taking image requests.
And secondly, the staff here aren't lazy, and you can fuck off right now if you say that the people who design the skins are. Me and Peter have worked on at least seven version sixes. Do you want to know why they aren't up? Because they weren't good enough for moaning, impatient, childish "I WANT IT NOW" members such as yourself.
We don't have to do anything. We do it because we want to give something back to the community that, mostly, do fuck all for us. Me and Peter give up our free time, unpaid, to give something to a group of strangers that give us no appreciation whatsoever.
The other reason it isn't up and running yet is because, and this might be a shock, we have lives outside of the internet. If you want to pay me, I will have this forum changed in two weeks. However, if I'm taking up my free time to design something for brats who moan when they can't wait for something that's free, I will take as long as I please.
I know Car doesn't want this mentioned, but I'm sick of people moaning about it. I'm working on version six again. The only difference is I'm not doing this for any of you any more; I'm doing it for her.
And you know what? Every single time I hear someone complain about it, I'm going to take even longer.

Actually I do do designs, I'm pretty nifty with paint shop pro and photoshop and that is design. Anyway that is neither here nor there,k you said new member ... you never said designer so next time you try to make a point make sure you choose your words carefully.
Again, you said it yourself that this isn't a design forum so why does me not being a "designer" have anything to do with that. __________________________
All that aside, Alan you would have a fantastic point if SSD would stop making open promises that fall short of actually happening. They've been promising forever it seems of this version and it has never arrived ... you know I don't think if it was a few months people would complain, they would have no valid argument but SSD higher ups have been making mentions to it often in the past via the herald.

Actually- about the 'making promises' point, you'll note how rarely I mention v6.
Alan was right; I didn't want him to mention he was working on it. I didn't want anyone to answer whether or not it's being worked on because then we hit the little snag where people start expecting it to be done within a few days. So every time someone has mentioned it, I have carefully given the aloof promise that it will come when it comes. Yes, I can promise there will be a v6. But in the past year, I have not bothered to match that promise to a timeline for this exact reason- because I don't know, and I can't know. And more importantly, I won't be caught in the same mess Oliver and I were forced into after the first v6. The (continuing) insults about an attempt to serve the community just meant we're now going through this stalemate of trying to be sure it's innovative.
I'm glad we have a community that feels it can voice its opinions. But this one has been voiced, and the only response it's earning is a large number of the staff just wanting to quit instead of having to deal with this shit.
It's an internet forum. Named by a 13 yr old boy after a videogame who made a layout obnoxiously matching blue and red together. If the fact that the buttons are a bit old is what sets fire in your pants, you might want to re-evaluate your lives.
