For the first time in many, many months, I have to agree with you here, Matt. Something needs to happen otherwise SSD is as good as dead. And I think rejuvenation will really help. What site is able to withstand 3 years without a single graphical change? Yes, two-three new banners, a few code changes, and new on/off icons but most of those are almost two years old now. If you don't have anything else, at least put the scrapped version of v6 up. :-\

I agree with both of you.

Proboards forums are based around new versions coming out. While many websites go years without new versions, they are nice and refreshing. If SSD was booming, or at least kinda active, I wouldn't be saying it would need a new skin.

Of course, by making this thread you are only going to get staff who are going to say "a new skin will only bring in a small burst of activity, it's the members who need to help out" This super old skin is really nice, looks great. But, it does get old. People like new things, making a new skin will make SSD look like a new forum. It will get rid of old ideas about SSD, and bring in new ones.

I have seen a few of the scrapped versions, and they all looked fine. I liked one of the versions Grace made the most, but they would all be fine for SSD. Don't say a new skin won't help, it really will. Everyone loves new skins. This one is so old, I am getting really really annoyed by it. =/

There are plenty of members who will still enjoy a new skin, so make one while they are still here. Don't wait until everyone has long forgotten what SSD is. It is a graphics community, so get going.

I'd like to point you to Wfigs (click). That forum has been around longer than SSD and is one of the biggest forums on ProBoards. Notice the amount of posts? Now notice that skin? It has never changed.

Saying this forum is dying because of the skin is a total cop out. If you want to see changes around here you can pull your fucking finger out and do them yourself.

I don't think anyone is saying it is dieing because of the skin. We are saying a new skin would help keep the forum from dieing. The forum is dieing for multiple other reasons, and blaming the members isn't going to help any. =/

And sorry Alan, but, no one is seeing you do anything. If you care so much, why don't you give some ideas? Honestly, everyone in this post gave some sort of positive feedback except you.

They're not helping in the slightest, they're making stupid suggestions we've heard a million times before. We had these suggestions before version 5, and now it is version 5, and we're getting them again. When will you people realise that having a new skin does not equal having a new start?

I have never seen a post from you in my entire time on this forum, where you weren't arguing with someone, or coming off negative in some way. Sure, you were an active part of this forum back in the day, but that doesn't make you god. We are all on equal ground here, so stop acting like you are above the rest of us.

Matt is pointing out something that needs to be addressed. This is a design forum, and especially on proboards, design forums require a new skin every once in awhile to keep things fresh. We all realize that the staff here have lives, that they have been working on it, and that this has been brought up before. However, most of us also realize that there has been ample enough time to release a new skin, and not only any skin, but an amazing one. If the staff here doesn't have the resources or the talent to release one of the quality they would like, then settle for something a little less revolutionary. Waiting any longer will just make things worse.

How the hell am I acting like a dick? I remember when you, Ash, and Peter left, it being me who stepped up as a member to try and save this place. I remember me being the one who did day after day of work here to try and keep it alive. I have put in more time to this site than anyone save the former admins and some of the Gmods.

What the hell have you done in the last year here, Alan? I remember us coming to you several times asking for your help with a v6. I was on the team trying to get something that Oliver would agree to. But nope. He wanted your work. He wouldn't accept a collaboration between Grace and myself with HP doing the coding. He wanted you and Peter. And last I heard, you still weren't going to do it.

Yes, I know. You left. Guess what? So did I. I left for a whole two months. After three years of almost continuous activity and dedication to SSD, I left for two months. You left two years ago and have barely shown your face since. Shut the fuck up, all right? You have no friggin right to call me a dick if we are gonna go around boasting how much work we've done for this forum.

As for SSD not going to die because of lack of a forum skin, you're wrong. It will. We aren't the top dogs anymore. We can't go around saying, "Hey, we're SSD. We're better than you." like the days of ol' back in 04 and 05. It doesn't work that way now. If we want to survive and not become F5 Designs, we need to put work into this. And I don't care about that forum. It isn't SSD, is it? It isn't a design/coding/support forum, is it? Nope.

Now, I'm sure Alan is gonna call me a shit head or a dick or a jackass or whatever but where the hell is our administration when we need them? This forum is dead. Outside of Chillout and the Lit Board, there is hardly anything going on. Oliver hasn't posted in two freaking months. That's the amount of time I disappeared for, mind you. I know as well as anyone what he has done for SSD but that is ridiculous. If you cannot do it anymore, give it up. Period. I believe Car is studying abroad, no? That's fine and dandy but if she cannot perform her duties, then she shouldn't be on staff until she is able to do so.

We need to realize something here. SSD is dying. There are many people that owe a lot to SSD, myself included, and I am not ready to see it go under. I came back from my absence to try and help and if being "radical" is what it takes, so be it. We need change. We need to see a new leader take over. We need a new skin. Guess what? The way SSD is being run and looks and acts isn't working. So what do you do when something is broken? You fix it. You fix it. You fucking fix it. Our leaders aren't here. We need new ones. We should get new ones. Our skin is old and no one seems to find it impressive anymore. We need a new one. We had a new one made and several other concepts made up between Grace and myself and even you, Alan. We should get a new one.

Now, I can almost guarantee people are going to say I'm an asshole or anything else of the like. Fine. So be it. I don't care. The fact is that I don't want to see this place die and from what I have seen, very few people give a shit anymore and those that do seem to be giving up hope. I'm speaking out. I'm saying what the others are all thinking. We need change. Period. If we don't get change, odds are we won't have SSD.

Alan, I don't know what you want to happen here, but what we have now is broken and unless you honestly wish this place to die, it needs to be fixed.
