I love community projects! If Jonny is too busy, I have a few we could do for the Photography one. I think I may have already started one with a post of mine... not sure. x3

What about those ones people used to do years ago, where everyone designs a 100 x 100px square for a mosaic? Things of that nature that require no specific knowledge/talent would be good, too. Or something along the lines of the world's tallest virtual building, even.

Not the kind of projects I was thinking of TDR but I'm sure we can bring those back too

Anyone got any ideas on how to create more time in a day for this? lmfao. I WANT to, I NEED to, but damn if I get but an hour at night to myself laying here in bed before I fall asleep, sometimes literally on the keyboard of the laptop.
As long as you make the 'deadlines' on these future projects long enough to allow time for us superpeople (haha ya right) to actually get it done? lol.
Gah -- I've tried 2 weeks now to get something started / finished for the SOTW. I almost had the halloween one finished, but stupid me forgot a simple step that everyone knows to do. its called SAVE AS AND SAVE. Cause see, my lovely laptop cord has a short in it, so ya move it funny and it goes POOF and it shuts off. So im sure you can only imagine what happened 3/4 finished...
*sigh* I didn't feel like trying to recreate it at midnight that sunday night.

I'm willing to add in some ideas.
Personally, what about sticking the community on V6. honestly, if it's going to be used by them, then why shouldn't they have a say in the design? For Fuck sakes, this whole "We're designing it, go find a corner and fuck off." thing just gets old. Then when it's released you get tons of complaints about shit that shouldn't matter. I remember with the release of V5 there was an entire draw out argument over the banner. Now we have this one. I personally think it takes away from what V5's true them was. The Bar code behind the message box, that was included in the banner. There's really no other place that it's at now because one or two people complained and then our image designers had to take more time to render a new copy. Thats not what we need.
If we get community input then people will feel like they are a part of this place and will be more likely to return and post quality content. If we get the people of the community working on creating their community look then you're going to get to not only see peoples artistic ability's, but your also going to provide others with a chance to learn and a chance to grow. After all, isn't that what art and community's are about? Growing in knowledge as a group. Every one here is a student. No matter how you look at it. We're all here to help each other learn, this would be another way to do it.
Remember the trading card idea? Where every one had their own trading card signature and avatar (I know, ancient right?) what if we did something like that again? New ideas aren't always the best ones.
Personally, I've been hard at work creating the "What Do You Think Of: Spring 2007" thread for almost a month and a half now. If I do decide to leave the community, I know who will be handing it over to. But either way, it's going to be great. It's going to look and function like none of the others ever have. If Version six is released by the spring time then it will be even better. We're going to get a whole new movement of activity thanks to both. I'll be posting another thread tomorrow that hasn't been around since summer. Simply because I can't power it out and find a user friendly version of the code to work, so I'm going back to the basics.
It's all about taking action. My hates off to trout for creating this thread because that only gives us more to go off of. Knowing that there are interested members out there makes the staff want to do more.
Sadira mentioned a forum she ran dropping down from 200 members to 20 members in an instance. If you look at the statistics, thats kind of happened here as well. As of the last time I actually did the math, we had less then 30 active members who posted on a weekly basis. Then we have lurkers. Del, and those sort who are formerly active members of the community. I feel sorry for them, because they always knew this place as a fun creative atmosphere and now that's all gone. Luckily, I think it's been displayed in large numbers by the community that change needs to happen and as if most of them would like to be a part of that change. All we need is the upper staff to give every one the go ahead, then great things will happen.
If the staff is so damn over loaded right now, I'm willing to step up and help manage the group of people who want to be part of the group. I've managed political campaigns, cycling teams, pool clubs, computer clubs, swim teams, bands, and many other things. I tell every one of our members to their face that I'm not afraid to step up and take charge to get these changes made. All I need is a willing team.
Seeing as it's 04:11 here (four in the morning for those of you who can't tell), I'll be needing to go to sleep soon.
I'm off, -Pritchard

Well, Brian, if you can get this entire community to agree on one design and work peacefully together without stepping on each other's toes, I'll start calling you Messiah. Ideas are always welcome, and I'm sure that within the community we can come up with a killer v6, but a core group of people should be the ones to see the idea to fruition. That's just my opinion.

I lost you at upper staff needs to give everyone the go-ahead.
I remember that every version has been a staff thing b/c we're a forum of thousands and to be honest... a forum where members still make blue forums on bright red backgrounds. It has always been something the staff enjoys giving to the entire community. People will always want to see the new version, but the main reason the last version never came out is because there were just too many opinions. Nothing ever really got decided or settled upon.
However, I don't remember the staff ever telling members not to post threads like the "What do you think of" threads... or like creating your own community practices. Not to add an even larger divide between the ridiculous "staff vs community" crap, but we like activity. Creating and running your own community practice- worm, mosiac, whatever- these are all things you don't have to have an orange name for. Just because someone comes behind you and stickies it doesn't mean it wasn't your effort and ultimately... accomplishes the same end.
On a completely general note and not aimed toward epic: For those of you who are so down on the staff and keep hinting you could do better, I fail to see any point behind these statements until you commit interest to action. Telling me you have time and that so-and-so never does anything in their own board gets you nowhere. Supposing I did take your offer, how would I know where to put you? The first step to actually becoming staff is recognizing that it doesn't require an orange name to be active and encouraging within a board. The only thing a colored name is meant to convey is the authority to moderate the board; the authority to sticky, reprimand, and control...
Point being - again general, not aimed towards one person- I've received a few very polite requests for modship, generally on the grounds that they either have time or could just plainly do it better. If so, please understand that both e and I would love to see the enthusiasm put to practical use... otherwise, it just fizzles out.

Not liking the idea of the community working on v6, sorry but things don't work like that. The more people you have working on it the more disasters you are encouraging. I've run enough teams to know that - too many cooks and all that. If it's to make a general template then cool, not so important and less likely to be ruined as there is no pressure to produce something on a par with the previous templates we've had.
There are plenty of people who want to "step up" and help, you aren't the only one out to help, and if I'm going to be completely honest, those who "volunteer" for anything that involves them getting a mod/gmod position are just pushing themselves further down the list imo, not up it.
You want the community to have a say in the design? Get them suggesting. Make a thread in chillout, hell I'll make one if it'll shut you guys up on the fucking template (but it won't - everyone will then be expecting it to come out sooner and expecting every single idea to be wrapped up into one template). I'm fed up with hearing about it. It's not laziness on behalf of the staff, it's boredom on the part of people, members of the "community". We don't need a new template. Never have, never will. It's been said countless times that a template does not make a community, but no-one seems to take this in and it's making me so annoyed I'm not sure I even want to put my time into it. But I am. Maybe if everyone shut up for a while about the frigging thing those who are working on something might be able to get it done eh? Without the burden of it being so expected that anything anyone will produce is going to be disappointing because you're all pinning your hopes onto a flipping template bringing back lost friends and getting new ones to come here. Why do you think we stopped production a year ago? Because of the expectation that's why, it was built up and built up that even that gorgeous skin was rejected before it had even been finished.
Blah.
This thread is about community projects however, not about that blimmin skin.
The trading cards was a member started event. It was never sponsored by the staff so there is nothing holding it back from starting up again.
haha I'm the mean admin lol. <3 ya UC

If You wish, You could do the graphics parts and I could handle requests and what not. That way you're not getting to overloaded between school and this. PM me or talk to me on MSN.

If you are looking for community projects, then how about the members who are into coding, create a tutorial on how to start coding.
I've tried to before, but I could never think of where to start.

so how would the trading cards here work?
we all make one?
I've done them on other boards before, but there was 3 total, so it kinda sucked all over.

Usually, there is someone organizing it- looks like Josh and epic- and they just fulfill requests for them.

Ah, ok, ty car.
The ones I'd seen in the past are where every member makes one up and then you 'give' it to everyone else. So everyone has a small sample of everyone elses work/style.
This is a bit different though, looks like. I'm looking forward to it.
