People don't understand what a hard job it is to manage the coding boards. I was up there for a month until my trip to Africa and the start of my Organization came up. It is a pain managine all the out-dated trash lingering in those boards. And the critisism form members doesn't help. I say, let's remove the coding boards. Forums like Studio Zero and PB Support are where members go to get codes, not ehre any longer. The Coding boards are just an obnoxious waste of space. If we're purely an Art forum, we'll be more attractive, and less cliched. I think we started as the trend-setters, but now we're simply following the trends we started./agree the coding area is almost entirely dead. we should just get rid of it, and let ssd expand in other directions.

But I have to point out. I love how you threw in Studio Zero. Most forget about us.

i don't think that's a good idea..
i think you should make the boards inaccesable to guests, that's what got me to originally join ssd.

It has absolutely nothing to do with you, Dalton. It has nothing to do with the past moderators either. But being around these boards for nearly 5 years I've seen SSD go through so many changes. The coding boards use to be buzzing with activity. But...a lot of those that inhabited them have moved on. I'll be one to agree, with PBS expanding their coding and graphics support boards it's taking a lot of the spotlight from places like SSD, and Studio Zero. A lot of people have been trying to open up new design/coding forums, and recruit others. What's the point? They're going to die of inactivity in a few months anyways.
SSD's strong point has always been the design side of things. I'm not saying completely cut out the coding section. But it doesn't need to be as huge as it is now. it gets very little activity, and a lot of the codes are outdated. Like Virt said, we should start focusing more on the design side of things. But really, that's just an opinion. It's in the hands of Car and Michelle to decide where to take the forum. Now that it's in their hands, I'm sure we're bound to see new things.

I have to agree here and I first proposed this idea to Oliver more than a year ago. The plan was since before v5 to dump the coding sections and become an art community. That is what Alan (or Peter, can't remember who made the post) said in the v5 introduction thread. I think that at the very least you should dump the coding boards and create a web design board in the Photoshop cat (since I cannot think of the name right now) and allow people to get help with web coding. I think the whole Proboard Support thing needs to go away. Proboard Support is that board now. SZ is that board now. It's not us. And no offense to our new coding mod but that board is so far gone it isn't even funny. I've board back from the dead here. I know what it takes. Honestly, I don't think it is worth the time. Especially when every other forum has it. With the DID, I at least had an edge over everyone else. People just don't come here for codes very often anymore. If anything, index them on the main site and drop the support for them

What Josh says is right. There aren't many forums out there that you can get specific help with your website, rather than your proboards forum. It goes the same for rates, too, a lot of proboards forums say "get opinions about your board" and it makes it seem as if we can't post websites.
The era of proboards is over, really. There isn't enough interest to just offer proboard's things.

Dalton, are you more focused on your "happiness" than on the wellbeing of the forum? If so, I'm not sure hwo fit you are to run those boards. With all due respect, of course.

I'm fairly certain Dalton is just invested in the boards, as Pandora is in her own favorite subject, lit. And I think I must be confused, Josh, but I'm pretty sure it has never been an adopted policy that we would get rid of the coding section though the simple fact that most of our staff is involved in art has led us to more of an art bias. Alan doesn't seem to remember this either. The only thing suggested during v5 was moving from just providing support to focusing more on a community- hence more focus on community coding projects and less on the database and graphic requests. As for the coding boards, it only seems fair to give it a chance now that it has a new moderator. It seems very dead at the moment, but so did the literature board at one point.

Hmm... maybe you're right, Car. I swear I remember seeing that the plan was to get rid of the coding altogether. Perhaps it was just getting rid of support and becoming a Pixelex type site, though.

Well, having coders like yourself active within it are what help most. <3 Not just moderators. And I'd look through the PM's and find something for you to blackmail him with, but the prat emptied his inbox before handing it over.
