I thought of this, as since there's the Buddy system, I think it'd be nice if there was something similar to a "Group" system, where are bunchy of new people and senior members "join" together and become buddies.

Hmm, but isn't that exactly like the Buddy board really? People tend to make their own friends after being here for so long.

True, but the definition of "so long" is different for who the person is, as it depends on how much time they spend on SSD, and thus with the members as well. If there were to b a given standard higher than 1 personn (a group), then I think the forward motion of making their own friends becomes significantly easier.

Well, when you said that, I was thinking Buddy Armies. Basically, it's fulfilling the word "army" in the board description ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) . You would join a certain army and put on a bunch of sigs that say "Join ____, it's teh uber pickle." Or something of that... pickle.

Did this idea ever get considered? I personally like the idea.
It's far different than the buddy system, that is based around new comers. These groups Mukei speaks of are for new members and older members. It would unite the community in a way, make it more exciting to be around.
I say we try something different for a change.

I find that far too a traditional method utilized under the approach of uniting a forum. All it does is add an extra load for those in charge of moderation. I personally feel the buddy system is good enough as it is, despite the fact it isn't exactly working out.

How exactly would it work? I don't really like the idea, mainly because of the amount of extra work it will put on the staff, and that is something most of us (I know the upper staff at the bare minimum) cannot handle right now. And for something like this, I don't think we would get a new mod. It would be experimental and we would rather have someone in charge that knows how this forum is run

Really, we should have some more community events, such as chat room events etc.. But more often(I understand the chat can't be used much) because for me, I forget to get in the chats etc... even though I do make a point to. Maybe we should have some kind of activity to learn more about each other? Like two members exchange a MSN address, etc.. and to participate in this contest, they have to find out some information about the other person, and like write a paragraph or something. The person that participates the best gets a custom title or something, and everyone who participated gets a sig saying "I participated in... " etc.. More things that members can do over a longer time will really bring the community together, and strengthen SSD.

I personally want to know Mitch's opinion on this, seeing that this is related to the Buddy Board itself.
I mean, there can be a quadrillion approaches, but what's going on right now in the Buddy System doesn't seem to be working to what it's meant to work like.
