Due to the lack of much activity or interest, I think you guys should remove the current rules/layout of the battle board. The two boards worked for awhile, but now it just seems like an extra click and more hassle for the mods. People don't create that many battles, and not many more people vote, so there isn't need for two seperate boards. I think that it would be best to change the board back to the former layout and rules. What I mean is just one board for both voting and creating battles. This would keep people more interested because they see it all happening in one place. Also, the rule to "back up your votes" just doesn't really work. If that rule were to be removed, I bet that a lot more votes would be given. The reason I don't vote at the moment is because it takes too long. In addition to combining the two boards and editing the voting system, I think that the point system should be removed. Back in the day, people battled just for fun and practice. Now, all you see is people trying to win a prize. I think that the art group members and mods that design should be required to battle or vote in the board, too. Right now most battles are taking place between new members or people trying to keep the board alive. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) (great job Apoc and LPF, you're doing a good job working with it, though. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) )

I agree, though it is more organized now.
I don't vote, because I am lazy. I should though.

More battles get completed, less battles get forgotten about. The changes we made were needed in order to get the place back on its feet again. I don't see anything wrong with aiming for a prize, doesn't make it any less fun. You don't have to compete if you don't want to. With the voting rules, all you have to do is to provide a single sensible reason - this prevents people basing votes on music preferences for example. People shouldn't be expected to write an essay or a show off style critique. I'd rather it was left up to the individuals to battle/vote - it shouldn't be made into a chore. Battling isn't to everyone's tastes. If you start forcing people then it takes away the fun.

I personally like how the layout, rules and whatnot are setup. Much more easier than before. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) The activity will soon pick up, most people are back in school. Which means theres sure to be more activity soon. I doubt Josh, or Oliver, will make any changes to the Battle Board just yet. We need to wait out the season and see how things turn out to make any major changes. Hopefully, things will pick up. Another big tournament could possibly help too. L u k e

L u k eLPF has tried for years to get that spot, don't deny him of it so quickly. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) I actually think the layout now is more organized, but I do agree that the extra clicking can be tedious, but in all honesty, an extra click only takes an extra second out of your time. Plus, I agree with Oliver that being forced to vote would only make it seem like a chore for staff and might actually send the message that members don't have to vote since the staff will do it for them. As for points, just ignore them. You can still have fun and practice if you ignore them. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I like the way the battle board is being run now. It is very organized and structured. We are having some activity troubles, but you should know very well, Nick, that summers aren't very good times for battling. This is about the time the board fell apart for you and Grace last year, was it not?
The Two board layout is needed. If we didn't have it, there would be a mess with new battles and old battles being together. One group would eventually force the other off the first page and there would be loads of bumping to get threads to the top which would force the other group off the first page.
As for the rules, I'm going to be rewriting them soon. There are some things that need to be added and some things that need to be deleted. The mandatory reason is necessary though. You weren't active when that rule was initiated Nick. I was forced to clean up about 4 threads and end two battles because a few members were voting and giving reasons like "I don't like 50 Cent". I have had very few problems since April or so when we put that rule into effect.
Mandatory battling isn't right. You can't force people to battle or vote. You can only ask. That is like when F5 (I think it was them) initiated a new rule for their show off board where you had to rate something else in order for you to start a thread. It was a mess. I don't battle much anymore because I don't do graphics very often. I just have other things to do. LPF battles loads and when he comes back (Anyone heard from him lately?) his constant battling should increase activity tenfold.
Addressing the activity, it is low. I know it. You know it. Everyone knows it. But activity is low around the entire forum at the moment. It will pick up once school starts back up and v6 is released later this month.
The point system adds some point to the board. Many people don't battle on boards where there is little point. You get an award, custom title, and blog when you win the season here. That is more initiative to battle than at any other board.
And just to let everyone who has been down about activity, I sent in over 300 points this week. That is more than I have sent in in almost 5 months now. It is picking up. Just give it time.
