We had them. I'm pretty sure they took them out, because people felt bad when they got a low rate.

Yeah, it was changed from 'rating' to 'critique' so you didn't need a number, people just comment on you work. To be quite honest how can you assign a number to an image?

What I found was most people seemed more concerened about the actual number, rather than the useful comments we gave.

It's not because people don't like low rates (which is true), it is that people only look at the rating, not the actual critique. This makes posting in there pretty much useless.

Well maybe if you kept it short rating, compared to all of the long rates that some members give out. True artist's that want to grow in their skill will take our suggestions. And I don't think the members just looking for the numbers and not the content is a good enough reason not to use them. (No offence Josh, Oliver.

On the odd occasion that I do rate an image, it is a very long rate. I only do that for people that I know will appreciate it, or Terragen artists. I have always taken Terragen artists under my wing so to speak. lol.
Anyways, people just looking at the numbers is a perfect reason not to use them. Could you imagine if I rated an image and the person didn't even read what I wrote? Just the number I posted? I'd be pissed. If they don't want the rate, then they don't want to improve, and aren't really artists in my eyes.
Also, remember that numbers are pointless.
Also, Sara, us the 17 server when posting links. The majority of the forum uses it and you need to relogin to use that forum.

I say we just try it and see what happens.

We did try it. For at least a year. Probably longer. That is the reason they were gotten rid of. And the things that we have tried bringing back like this have all ended up with the same results as before.

It's not just they want numbers, they want high ones. That's why many people post in tehs how off boards. Just o feel good about themselves. :/ I feel that's stupid, and maybe rating images will make it worse.

It's not just they want numbers, they want high ones. That's why many people post in tehs how off boards. Just o feel good about themselves. :/ I feel that's stupid, and maybe rating images will make it worse. There are many problems with rating images. 1. What is the rate in comparisson to? If you get a 1/5 and you are being compared to Alyn for a terragen + photoshop piece, it isn't fair. 2. People should be going there for suggestions on how to improve. Ratings may sometimes make them happy, but the majority of people that want them will most likely get a bad rating. Most artists that have consideable talent don't even want rates, but that is different for people who are new to graphics. 3. Ratings bring up arguments and flames directed to members who are just trying to help. I am sure there are multiple more. Also, isn't this an old thread? I only posted because there was a recent post, but I think this was created awhile ago....

What I found was most people seemed more concerened about the actual number, rather than the useful comments we gave. What we found... Jerk. Yeah, we hoped that removing ratings would remove some people from the board that were only interested in the number. I can clearly remember giving long, detailed rates with a low number but LOADS of comments and suggestions, and all I ever got was an "Okay", or "thanx", or sometimes they wouldn't even respond and would go on and post something else. Got really irritating.
