Ok. So August 6 and August 9, 1945. Atomic Bombs go off over Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. Pretty bad times for Japan, right?
Yeeeahno.
Let's take a look at Tsutomu Yamaguchi. On August 6, he travelled to Hiroshima for a business trip. As he was getting off the train, Little Boy detonated 2 miles away. In the words of Cracked "As he stepped off a tram an atomic bomb blew up less than two miles away, fucking shit up in an extraordinary way."
Now, he survived. Not many can say they have survived an atomic bombing, right? Yeah, well this guy is like the lightning rod of atomic explosions. After a night in a bomb bunker, he went back home to... wait for it... Nagasaki. On August 9, he was at work when Fat Man detonated over Nagasaki... 2 miles away.
Best part? The man is still alive, possess no mutant powers, and is 93 years old.

Wow! I bet he felt a little important, in a terrible way. Thinking the US Government was out to blow him up in an epic way. An assassination would have been recognizable if they had a sniper shoot him But this guys' James Bond! He doesn't die!

I read something in the Guardian a few months ago about quite a similar story. A survivor of the Hiroshima bomb returned home to Nagasaki and tried to explain to his boss that he couldn't have attended work at his factory position in Hiroshima because the city had been destroyed by a bomb. His boss was screaming at him that no single bomb could destroy a city when he saw a massive flash out of the corner of his eye...

The story you'd read focused on a businessman, mine on a factory labourer, so they don't sound all that similar other than having been in the same places at the same time. I believe that there are at three living survivors of both bombs so they needn't be the same person.

The story I read about him seems like it might be a mashup of the guy I noted and the guy you are talking about. lol. Damn Cracked article.
