Don't answer if you don't want people to know you appear invisible on SSD or other forums, but why do you feel the need to not show up on the online members? It's not like an IM program where people can talk to you instantly. I'm just curious as to why people do it.

I've never gotten the reason as to why someone would be indivisible on a forum. IM Clients, I can see why however. When ever I go invisible I do some because I want to see whose online and contact people if need be but don't really want to deal with people who tend to ignore Away Messages.

I do it because I use to see how much crap past staff members would get for not logging in every day or every other day by other members or whatever. So I let staff know when I'll be busy, and then if I don't log in, people won't know. Sometimes I'm on every day, just don't post. Besides, it helps when there are spammers and they don't know if the invisible user is a staff member or not.

I did it just because. I had mine set to invisible for aaaaages. Something like 15 months until Oliver complained about it. Other than that, I only ever turn it to invisible when I "leave" SSD so that if I accidently visit (Clicking the wrong bookmark, usually), it doesn't look like I am a lurker or anything.

Being invisible on PB is pointless. I only use the feature on IM clients, mainly MSN. I get in the mood where I feel like talking to one specific person. Either that or I'm avoiding you. People do ignore away and busy status so It's always easier to be invisible. I always sign on invisible, just to see whose on.

I set it to invisible a long time ago so that when I was doing work, either Herald or Interview related, I could be left alone and leave the tab up as I did other work. That way it wouldn't look like I just wasted hours on SSD. I found it was just a useful thing for me and haven't really had the motivation to change it.

Well, you see, I'm so amazing that I have the actual ability to become invisible whenever I want. It's rather hard to demonstrate this awesome superpower to internet personas, so PB provided this option just for me. That's how it all began, really.

I used to always leave mine on invisible because people get offended if you aren't responding to them right away... and sometimes, I leave MSN on away so I can talk to one person in particular- but if everyone can see that I'm actively strolling around SSD, then it kind of makes it obvious that I'm actually around.
Also, I just generally have had issues in the past with privacy, so I tend to be hyper-sensitive about not wanting anyone to know for sure when I am around and when I'm not.

I turned it on one time when I "left" where I could still lurk and have yet to turn it back off.

I don't go invincible. Having said that, I have never been invincible. I just don't feel to be someon important to be so conscious of privacy issues.
