deviantArt postingI water the flowers.I water the flowers While you look at me through the open window Smiling to myself, I can feel your eyes
I water the flowers While I look at you laying on that white bed Smiling to myself, hoping you will rise
I water the flowers on your grave While I look down at you, I miss and mourn you Smiling to myself; in God your fate lies
I water the flowers on your grave ...with these tears.
I wrote this after visiting the cemetery with my mom, about a week after my step father passed away (April 22nd, 2009). Watching her reaction is what created this. Before passing, he had a stroke on the right side of his brain while driving work. When in the hospital, he had a larger stroke in the same spot, and finally another stroke in the front of his brain. He was in the hospital for almost a month. He was even showing great signs of recovery, and was even standing up the day before. I followed a few patterns, just because. First line starts the same. Second line deals with looking and is 10 syllables. Third line starts the same, is 11 syllables, and has a rhyme. Last two lines are the exception. The second bit is about laying in a hospital bed, while still alive, just in case there's some confusion.

I think it's very haunting and very beautiful at the same time. I am sure he would be very honored if he could read it.
