Alright, so if you work in any type of business that you have customers that you have to deal with on a daily basis, I'm pretty certain that you have at least one horror story involving a customer. Today at work, it was chaotic, and irritating, and I couldn't believe some of the things that happened. btw, PIC means person-in-charge.
First-- A woman came through with a pair of shorts that were originally $38.00 and she said that they were 40% off, but that there was a sign saying they were $18.99 they rang up $21.99 the head cashier, and our apparel PIC both checked and said that they were indeed $21.99. so she paid, and then made a huge fuss about going back to get the sign. As I was checking another woman out, she came back and shoved the sign in my face, which the other woman snatched out of her hand very rudely and continued to talk to me. The woman then started yelling at my other customer and all I could do was stand back and let them at it. My current customer was coming to my defense saying that it wasn't my fault, and that she needed to stop being a bitch. All the while, my co-worker Courtney stood there with her jaw open because she couldn't believe the woman was acting that way.
Second-- My co-worker Jann told me that there was a guy coming to pick up a $200 pool, and to make sure he paid for it because he hadn't of, yet. We were so busy that when I saw him start walking out the door with it, I simply asked him politely if he'd shown his receipt to Courtney (she was at the register next to mine). He said yes, and went out. Not even three minutes later, my other co-worker, Tina, comes in and tells me that he's outside calling me a bitch, and that he hates me and wishes he could have told me off or hit me. I'm like, wtf? I'm not about to let him walk out the door with a $200 pool without making sure that someone had seen his fucking receipt.
Third-- This woman had a coupon for $2 off her next shopping purchase. The coupon had expired on May 21, 2009. I told her that I couldn't use it, and handed it back to her. She continued to get bitchy with me and tell me off, and asked if I could get a manager over there to get them to give it to her. I just told her that I couldn't, the coupon was simply expired and that my PIC wouldn't do a thing about it. Which was true, my PIC would have laughed his ass off.
Sometimes I get so pissed off, and shaken up about how other people act towards us cashiers, it's like, the stores fucking up on prices is not our fault. Some customers are just fucking idiots and shouldn't be allowed to skip through society, imo. I get that it's frustrating when something doesn't ring up the correct price. But sometimes signs that are expired aren't pulled. Sometimes they grab the wrong thing and think it's something else. And then the people who still cannot grasp the concept that unless there's a fucking barcode, we cannot sell it, is beyond me.
I really hate working in retail. I cannot wait to get out of it. Anyone else got any horror stories to share?
