So this year, in honour of Valentines Day, there is going to be a photography contest! It’s an interesting theme (I thought), and will produce some different and thoughtful imagery if all goes well. So rather than me rambling, lets get right down to this!
First things first! A theme!
The theme here is Valentines Day, of course. I want you to illustrate, in either one photo or a triptych, exactly what Valentines Day means to you, or what you think it means in general. It can be about love, or it could be about loneliness. The criterion is pretty wide open, so long as the meaning can be understood. You can provide a small description with it if you’d like, just in case we don’t understand it, but it’d be better if we don’t need the description at all.
If you do decide to do a triptych, be careful that it works out properly. They’re not easy to do, and it will have to be edited so that all three photos sit inside one image with some sort of solid colour framing around it. I would prefer solid black, but I’m not going to inhibit your choices. All you can’t use is graphic design to spruce up the borders. This is about the photography, after all.
Now, some rules!
These aren’t going to be over-bearing. Hell, most of them are probably common sense. So here we gooooooo!
First, no nudity! Not even artistic nudes! I’m pretty sure it’d break the TOS, so let’s just not tempt fate.
Second, you may only submit one image. So that’s why all triptychs must be combined into one image. If you need to modify your post or image for whatever reason, PM me, and I’ll do it for you.
Third, no photo manipulation. You can do retouching, but that’s it.
Fourth, it must be your own work, and shot specifically for this contest. You may not use old work, and it can not be previously posted on SSD. I want to see something new.
That seems to be it. See, easy, only four of ‘em. Although, depending on what questions I get, and what I see, I might have to add on. But I think that’ll cover it.
Next, we need some deadlines!
All images are due in the appropriate thread by February 14th, 11:59pm GMT -5, and they will be judged during the following week. This gives you a little over three weeks to submit something. Plenty of time.
And what you’ve all been waiting for… PRIZES!
There will be a cash prize of $10 to the winner of this contest! And of course a custom title declaring your awesomeness.
Of course though, we need some judging criteria!
First and foremost, you’ll be judged on artisticness and creativity. This is going to count for 75% of everything.
Secondly, the next 15% is the technical skill. How well did you execute the image?
Third and finally, the last 10% is how well you got the message across. So if it’s understood without needing a description, then you’ll easily get the full 10%.
Right now, I’m the only judge in order to maximize entries. I might be able to find some other judges as well, but considering the majority of judging will be on how creative it is, it shouldn’t be a problem. :3
So that’s it. Get to it! And have fun! I look forward to seeing what you create.
This is also the thread to discuss the contest in, ask questions, ect. I will post a separate entries thread.
