First thing I've designed for about a year, trying to get back into the swing of things. Constructive criticism will be greatly appreciated. DeviantArtMain image I cut out myself, with an image found on google many years ago. Brushes I used were ones called "chaotic" and "Shad0ws_Blood_Brushes" that I have on my computer from ages ago and have no idea where I got them from.

Looks great. Nice choice of colour.
Extraction around the right part of his hair needs a tad bit more work - I can see some white bordering from the original image. The lighting could be a tad bit smoother for my taste, but overall, it's looking pretty good. You've definitely gotten back 'into the swing of things' : )

I love you, which is why i will say this.
I think I see what you did, and atleast i believe it was wrong. You just layered element on element and looked alright. first the background brush, n ext the stock, next the above brush, next the text. then you added a lighting effect.
Next time, skip the lighting effect, use white and black brushes on different blending modes and different opacities to get desired lighting effect.
stay in just a few layers. brush over the stock instead of under it. this will help keep you on your toes in blending the render in without screwing yourself over by losing the focal point.
lose the text. no one can place text correctly on tags at all, no one.
what type of tag is this? if its a grunge, make it dirtier. if its abstract, add more elements. it looks like you went half assed at a try of both of them. you add a littlel grunge in the background combined with trendwhore splatter brushes. its messy and uninteresting.
add gradient maps, they add depth and awesome.
basically, try again, but next time, make a gradient background, set the stock in there, and then start brushing with whatever brushes using colors you eye drop from the stock. use round soft airbrush brushes and smudge them around.
that'll give you your own style, and you'll improve.
