When I started designing I was working with Photoshop 7. I upgraded a while later to CS2 and that wasn't a big change; some features were different but the overall layout and feel of the program was the same.
I just picked up a trial of CS4 and it feels like a completely different program to me.
Anyone using it that has an tips for the upgrade? Or what version do you use now and why have you stuck with that one over the "new and improved" editions?

I started with version 7, which was fairly nice I thought. I then upgraded to CS, and really... it wasn't that much of a jump. Not really worth it. I then jumped to CS3 and I still felt it just... it wasn't really worth it.
However, I recently was given CS4 and my God do I love it. Especially the 64 bit version of Photoshop, it's so friggin' amazing. Plus with the graphics acceleration, it makes things go so much faster.

CS4 lags so badly I can hardly do anything, especially when I'm transforming anything larger than like 300x300. I love all the updates I've read about and watched demos of so maybe I just need to get a new comp

I've always used photoshop 7 up until now, I had to upgrade to cs1 when I got my mac, I'm currently downloading the cs4 trial, cs3 just doesn't look worth it! Tbh, the photoshop version doesn't really matter until you are really confident, because most of the features they're adding are advanced and things you're not really going to use. I would always reccommend learning on photoshop 7, it still remains my favourite version...I'll see how cs4 goes

I've used it since 6 but didn't really do much until 7. Currently running CS3 with little to no plans to upgrade.

I have CS 3, I remember 7 but didn't care for it. So CS4 is next on my list but I can wait on it.

I started with Cs2 and had that for a few years and only recently i have upgraded to Cs3 after buying the complete Adobe Cs3 Suite. Cs3 is very similar to 2, not too much difference so the upgrade was not difficult for me.

I started with 7.0 as well, and with time, a lot has changed. The change from Version 7 to CS was huge, most of you forget that, there was a big change. Of course, into CS4 now and it seems like an entirely new program, but the core is still the same really, a lot of cosmetic changes and I'm not too fond of them to be honest.

Currently just "upgraded" to CS4. Have used 7 CS CS2 and CS3. I love the changes in CS4 but really what I would say to make the upgrade go easier is read/watch some tutorials on the new interface things and features.

Especially the 64 bit version of Photoshop, it's so friggin' amazing. Plus with the graphics acceleration, it makes things go so much faster. Yeah but their graphics acceleration is damned BS! They don't support my Nvidia Quadro FX 1100 card! They support the 1400 and up though. I realize it's for professionals but the 1100 is for professionals too, what the hell adobe? I think I'd have better luck using a Gaming card! Anyway, I've done them all. Every time a new version is out I'm on it (Or at least the trial if I'm broke). 7: The first Photoshop for me, I loved it! CS: I hated it, it was horrible! It ran slow and the new features were lame! CS2: The best photoshop EVER! The layout changes and selection changes made my life way easier and it ran well! CS3: The one I use 98% of the time now. I like the layout changes and it runs well on my CPU. Not a lot of feature changes. CS4: I don't use it much. It has a lot of neat new features and runs moderately well on my CPU. We have it at school and apparently they don't have updated drivers for their GFX cards and . . . the effin program is hardly usable. It lags on tiny, 1-layer images and if you load a brush from CS3 the whole program crashes. Overall I would say that CS3 and CS4 are really good. The main reason I've stuck with CS3 is because I like the layout and it performs well on my computer. CS4 seems to run fine on my computer too but I installed it on my X: Drive and then I had to reallocate it to W: and now my computer thinks photoshop's not installed and I don't want to fix it.

don't use cs4, atleast until they patch it. apparently the new transform code they put in there screws with the system, and you can't create anything in high resolution. stay with cs3 until adobe fixes cs4.
honestly though, adobe 7 works perfectly fine for me. i can do whatever i want with adobe 7. cs3 is just nice for when i want a fancy filter, or just to screw around.

i'm currently using CS2... It seems good to me and I want to go with it. CS3 I have not bothered using. But I have to d/l CS4 trial before I plan to buy it. As i heard many people say, its awesome. Also, you'll have to just play around with the version.. you might then know how to use it.
