What is the biggest mistake you've done as an admin/webmaster?
My biggest mistake was hiring someone I never knew to a co-admin position back in my nub days. All 800 posts on my forum were deleted! It sucked like no other.

Trusting someone who used to be an admin on my site. He gave himself access to private boards, talked down on a ton of the members, spread false rumours and lied to pretty much everyone. Needless to say, he was demoted. I didn't have to ban him, he left after he realised pretty much everyone hated him. He didn't really cause any irreversible damage, but he did lose many friends, his girlfriend, and any affiliation with my site he had, which he had put a lot of work into when he wasn't a jackass.

I just had my biggest mistake last night, but this morning I fixed it...you have no idea how happy I was. I've had this install of vBulletin on my site for a while and it has many posts, threads, and members. It's for my Halo clan that I run and we have ALOT of information and things we need on our forums. Well last night I was going to upgrade it to the latest security patch and of course before I do anything I make a backup of the database. Well in the process of upgrading the forum the config file got messed up and I lost all the information from it including the password to the database...I made that password like a year ago. There's no way I'll remember it. So my fellow admin that knows more than me about this kind of thing looked into the problem and tried to get a new dB up with the old information and couldn't get it to work...we were at the end of our road...So we deleted the forum and started fresh, but I wasn't going to stop there. This morning I woke up and realized I might have an old config file that has the password fr the dB in it and sure enough I found one. I updated the new config file and BOOM everything was fine! I am a happy panda

I went for almost a year and a half with out updating drupal. Hand wrote a ton of modules for it, and then when i updated, I updated straight to version 6.1 (this was like a few weeks ago, lmao). So nothing worked. Then i updated to version 6.5, and had to fix it all over again. I ended up deleting tons of data, and all the registered users. I feel like it wasn't that big of a deal because most of the users just signed up to download member only resources. I had done a file backup, and a database back up, but they wouldn't load, so I just said fuck it.
Oh, one time I installed drupal on a server with a small memory limit and launched it publicly on the drupal site. Came home and tons of stuff was broken file wise.

Like some of the other I put someone I thought would help in a high position, mine was family tho. Another thing was having too much to offer to users too soon.

I uploaded a huge file and posted it for the people on my production team to download....5 of them tried to DL it at the same time and the whole server crashed for 2 hours because of the load -.-
