Which is better and why? I'm looking to do abstract renders mostly. But I'd like to be able to do others as well. Can anyone help me determine which is better/easier?

If you want something free, then try Blender - www.blender.orgI'm assuming you're only asking this question because you're looking to buy either of them, if you could get them for free you would just try both I haven't had much experience in either but I think C4D has been rated higher. Oh, one last thing, abstract renders are so pre-2006 you're going to have to do something amazing to revive that camp!

For actual modelling purposes I prefer 3DS Max, but for abstract render-y fun C4D is best.

Maya.
It may just be because I've been using Maya for the past 3 years but I just really prefer it, especially for rendering. Plus I think they still have a free learner's version (or you can get an older version anyway) and I think the learner's version allows you to render images.
