I've just downloaded this. I'm a n00b at coding, I have no idea what i'm doing in any language. What's your opinion of it? I have to use it for College Assignments.

Which VB?
Visual Basic is a good language to learn... it's not as powerful (as far as I know) as Java, or C++ but it is certainly more flexible and easier to learn. Can really get you started up in the programming world.

Blech. Honestly, though the syntax may be a bit more confusing I'd shoot for C#. With the advent of .NET and Visual Studio 2003, which language you choose doesn't really matter anymore. VB vs. C#: the language is very similar...the main difference is the syntax. Since that's the case, I'd say go for a real programming language (basically any non-basic based language). I mean, honestly, who doesn't use semi-colons?
@virtuoso: Not really less/more flexible. It may be easier to learn, but it's hardly more or less flexible.

yeah, also VB is really slow, to compile and run, youd be better off with C# or C++

My VB knowledge is a little limited but I agree with these guys. I have been using C# for a while now and from what I have seen here lately a lot of people are picking it up.
Plus, I <3 semicolons ;
