I was in the library for 10 minutes today looking for a paper someone wrote about System Software. I came across this 300 odd page book entitled "Web Programming" and it claimed to cover :
PHP ASP JavaScript HTML xHTML MySQL Ajax Perl-CGI JSP
Yeah, so... lol. It was painful to leaf through it to say the least. The best it could be used for is an introduction to Web Programming and the possibilities. But it claimed to make one a Web Developer and all that jazz.
Fail. No.
Anyone else had similar experiences?

I saw a 72 page book at Barnes and Noble once that said it could make you an expert at Ajax. It was only there for a few weeks and I didnt see any copies afterwards.

Hmm... the "Who this Book is For" section of that book must have said, "Experienced Web Developers."

I have a book that's:
Perl & CGI CSS HTML (X)HTML JavaScript Ajax
It's utter BS. It's so bad that I might as well lose knowledge, rather than gain from it. -.-'

HTML, xHTML, CSS and JavaScript in one book is understandable. And if you extend it another 200 pages, you might as well be able to fit Ajax into it.
But then throwing stuff like Perl/CGI and PHP is just LOLZORISH.

But then throwing stuff like Perl/CGI and PHP is just LOLZORISH. Yeah, the Perl section was bogus. I was looking forward to learning, but I was pretty disappointed. They backed quite a few pages into the other stuff, which was good, but Perl was pointless.

The O'Reilly editions of Perl Programming are pretty good, check them out. They don't stuff things into a single volume, they make them easy-paced and have different levels. Beginning Perl Programming, Intermediate Perl, Advanced Perl.
