There are now several sever-side programming languages available for people to be able to make their websites in. Each has its quirks and ups and downs. However, some seem to be dying in the internet field and moving elsewhere, or just not as popular. Which server-side language do you think will last out the others and hold the title of supreme champion?
Discuss.

Server Side in my opinion is mostly PHP and MYsql based. That's as far as I can see, how it'll remain for at least 5 years time.

Well ASP and Perl are fairly common in use, as you can see from the fact that Proboards itself is made with CGI and Perl. Though as far as I can see, Perl is moving further away from the internet, and closer to network programming, its very handy for that. The problem that I see with ASP, is that it only runs on windows servers, which is very limited. All-in-all, I agree with the conclusion that you came to.

Martyn himself has said countless times how he's going to rewrite v5 to allow use of mysql databases. So that must also say something about the way the web is developing now...

PHP is my favorite, but unfortunately it's not taken seriously. Also unfortunately, IIS is gaining on Apache, and one day ASP may take the lead. It's really really saddening, because ASP is the devil's language. I despise that language.

PHP is my favourite server-side language. I don't like how ASP is coded and I detest Microsoft to a certain extent anyway.

PHP is so popular and available (no need for an expensive windows server) that I can't see any language out lasting it at the moment.

Right, in theory it's the perfect language. Actively developed, supported on most major OSes, and free and simple to setup. The only problem is, it started out weak and people got a bad taste in their mouth, so it's hard to convince them it's drastically better. That's the sad part about consumers, even of freeware and programming related things.

Interesting comment there, that you've never been much of an SQL guy. If you've never been much of an SQL guy, you must go through a shit amount of luck working with databases. ;-)

If you've never been much of an SQL guy, you must go through a shit amount of luck working with databases. ;-) Nonsense, you should SEE some of the horrendous database interaction code I've seen. A commonly horrid one is that people will select the ENTIRE table to count the number of records, instead of using a simple COUNT query. Others include selecting the whole table then using the language, as opposed to the SQL, limit down which records you're viewing, effectively wasting the reading of the records for all but the 10 or 15 you're currently looking at. Not knowing a thing about SQL doesn't stop you from working with it

Not knowing SQL then causes you to make some punk ass code that eventually crashes servers.

Precisely.
Then this code gets distributed over places like hotscripts and we're all screwed.

HotScripts has code with just... never mind. Websites like that should just not be used.
