Hello Everyone!
Over the Summer, I would like to learn how to use Photoshop. I have the program already, and I am all set to go. Now, I just need to know how to use it.
How did you all start learning to create graphics? Are there any good sites to look at for beginner's tutorials?
I really want to learn, but I don't know how to start!

Exactly what PS? I started by using every effect and filter PSP had and saw which ones fit well together. Then, once I was comfortable with PSP, I then used tuts and asked for help. SSD has a fine source of tuts but beause of hosting issues, some may not work. If you google your PS program's name + tutorial you wil get many results. To reiterate, best advice I can give is get used to PS. Explore and learn. THEN use tuts and other resources. Good luck man. -gray929 aka THE Picasso of Digital Art =)

To start, you'll have to figure out what the most important tools do. www.13dots.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2462Some concise explaination of the tool bar. Then head on over to www.pixel2life.com/tutorials/adobe_photoshop/basic_help_and_navigation/ and click on some tutorials. They'll give you the gist of the tools you use. Most importantly, open up a blank document, fairly large, and fool around with all the different options. Best way to learn is by using it, even if you don't really know what you're doing, because eventually, you'll figure it out. And then once you think you have the basic tools down, go over the pixel2life again and try some specialized tutorials that'll get you started on a project. Some advice: Only way you're gonna learn is by practicing. If you start out and make some hideous stuff, keep at it. We all made hideous things when we began. (If you didn't, I'm jealous.) No matter what, just keep at it. On the more technical side, if you think you need to make a new layer, do make a new layer. I hope this helps a bit. Edit: Wouldn't this be more fit for the Photoshop board?

He's right, looking back at some of my old stuff the other day, my delete key was going to burn up I was deleting so much horrible junk that I thought was good at the time. You'll get better, the best way IMO is to use pixel2life and just do what the tutorials show you over and over and make tons of pictures just like how they show you, then eventually it'll get to a point where you'll see the end result and be able to fill in most of the blanks, then where you'll see in your mind the end result and make it yourself. I also agree, put every little element on a seperate layer, it'll be a larger PSD but it will save you so much work and make your projects much easier to edit.
