The Absolute//Zero" by nrich
Absolute//Zero has been known for working on conjunction with vBulletin "coder extraordinaire" Zero Tolerance on many projects, as well as partnering with other designers and coders. The most recent project of his, Wo^tron Design Factory, is by far one of his more polished accomplishments, boasting a gorgeous layout design. A//Z and I have been friends for some time now-- having met him through Spektral --and he was the first to come to mind when thinking of an excellent interview.
Real Name: Joe S.
Age: 17
Birthday: July 29th, 1989
Residency: Naples, Florida
Nationality: Italian/Sicilian and German descent
Starting off, what are some of your interests and hobbies?
I love to play video games, be they emulators or the real thing. I'm a big fan of the N64 and have currently 380 games for it alone. Aside from gaming I love going to the beach, spending my days relaxing, swimming, playing with friends, getting a tan. Also recently I've picked up an interest in snorkeling and fishing. I also enjoy modding cars with my old man, as it's one of the few things we can do that we both like.
How did you get exposed to the internet, and at what age?
Well when I was around 8, my dad bought a brand new Packard Bell with Windows 3.11 and, of course, with a subscription to AOL. He gave me my own account, I poked around on gaming sites and some chat rooms. I didn't too much then.
What got you into the graphics design business, which then led to you working with Zero Tolerance?
There were several factors. I had seen sites like 2Advanced, WA007 and BillyBussey, and I thought about possibly creating some type of business like that for a living, it seemed like an idea, do something I liked and make money. Another thing was that when I created wo^tron just to be a showcase for my works, people started saying "Hey that looks cool, can you give me something like that?", so I figured "Why not go at it?"
How about some details about the "Wo^tron design bluesheets"?
Inspiration: 2Advanced and the now defunct Ravio.com both are majors - they create(d) designs that pushed the bar of web design to the next level. Several other sites inspire me, such as my friend Jeff's site (Mished.net), Flash Level, and many others.
Tools: When I do design, I use Photoshop CS2 for the designing and then I slice and code what I need in Image Ready. For the actual coding I got Dream Weaver 8 and good old primitive notepad.
Going into the future, what path are you going to lead as an artist?
First of all, I'm going to finish wo^tron v3, which will be the biggest and final version. With the initial v3 design there will also be a lite version, a PDA version and a little thing I like to call "Wo^tron Labs". After v3's launch I will work on helping wo^tron expand.
Aside from that I have planned to buy out former star gaming sites wiredgamers.com and wiredgamer.com (In the process of making the deal now...slowly but surely) and creating a massive gaming network out of them with other sites.
Shooting really far into the future I do intend on possibly buying out yaXay.Com from iNet LLC as soon as the funds become available (believe me, the asking price is no where NEAR cheap. I'm not disclosing it but I'll say it's in the mid $1000s).
That's just a rough outline of what I have in store for the future. Of course, there is no way to tell what is in store for the next day, so who knows what will happen, and what will remain nothing but a dream.
Considering that you're a "design guru" of sorts, what advice would you give to aspiring young Wo^tron Junior's?
I would tell new designers to make an effort to make all designs unique from what exists today. I see many designers these days and they all create the same old designs using the same effects and color schemes. I believe this has ruined the design era, where designs should be individual works of art unsimilar to the others.
I'd like to give a thanks to Big Joe for conducting this interview with me (and helping out with the content most of the time).
Last words from Absolute//Zero: "One guy stole my Nick and he called himself Absolute//JEW, lmao"
