"Some thoughts with lord Morgoth" By, Ryan.
Ryan: How about you give me a brief background on yourself to get started?
Morgoth: Well, I'm sixteen, live in a popular tourist resort in south England, and my hobbies include writing, surfing the web, learning things from Wikipedia, partying, waking up in places not knowing how the hell I got there or who the hell the person next to me is, and other such normalities.
Ryan: You say you like writing, any recent works you could share with us?
Morgoth: Indeed. I'm writing my first novel as we speak (well, not literally as we speak, as we speak, we're speaking). It's a conspiracy thriller thing, I'm very pleased with it so far and it's had nothing but positive reviews from the dozen or so people I've sent it to. I've written about a fifth of it so far.
Ryan: How very exiting!
Morgoth: I hope it will be, anyway
Ryan: Do you think writing will be a big part in your future, career wise?
Morgoth: Oh sincerely hope so. That's absolutely what I want to do, be a novelist.
Ryan: I hope you the best with that. Now, what brought you to SSD in the first place?
Morgoth: I originally made a Lord of the Rings forum in summer 2003, and found my way to ProBoards support. I was an absolute n00b when it came to forum design (though not grammatically or anything, I still typed properly...) and found my way to the SSD website. If I recall, it was all blue and had four squares that led you to different places. From there, I found the forum.
Ryan: I remember your old forum. I was in the random club, or whatever we called it. Good times. When you first came to SSD, did you ever expect you would be a moderator?
Morgoth: No, but I'd always wanted to. It was the top of my things to do for many months, become a moderator. I was still a little immature when it came to forums, so that was all I wanted more than anything; I didn't appreciate at the time that being a part of the community was as good as being a staff member.
Ryan: Some times it is better, you don't have to do all the work. What are you favorite parts of SSD to post at?
Morgoth: Hah, very true. Definitely Chillout, that's where I spend most of my time. Occasionally I'm in Literature or Suggestions. My favorite area used to be Show Off, many years ago - that's where I wanted to moderate. But Oliver was very protective of his little board, and by the time they were looking for Show Off mods, I'd lost interest in it.
Ryan: You were an Interviews mod for a while were you not?
Morgoth: Urgh, briefly. To be honest, my heart was never in it. I accepted because I thought it'd be cool, and SSD was the last of what I considered the big PB design forums - SSD, ZD and G101 - that I'd never been staff at. So I said yeah, knowing I was certainly able. But the interest just wasn't there for me.
Ryan: It's good to see you have found another staff position though, one that you seem very content with. Tell me, do you think you are a good choice for "moderator1"?
Morgoth: Haha, well yes, but I'm a tad biased. I've always been very active in Chillout, and it's the place I spend 90% of my time on SSD. Pretty much all my posts are in there (aside from the hundreds I did in Show Off so many years ago), and I'd like to think I'll bring some interesting debates and discussions to the place - it has gone through periods where that is lacking, though it's picking up at the moment.
Ryan: Yes, it seems like it is. Are you exited about V6?.
Morgoth: Impatient, though I wouldn't say excited. I've been on forums where skins have taken a long time, and SSD has had two particular versions that have been very long lasting. Really, I've got used to v5, and I wouldn't be too bothered if it never changed. But it's always refreshing a nice to see a new skin. However, skins don't remain new for long, it's the community that matters, and SSD is fortunate to have a very strong one, so the skin is nowhere near the top of my list of priorities.
Ryan: Good answer, though a new skin may just be the thing SSD needs to get it rolling again.
Morgoth: Well I don't know, SSD is rolling pretty fine at the moment. It's certainly not the forum it was two years ago, and in ways that's a good and a bad thing. SSD's doing fine, but certainly a new skin will add a temporary buzz.
Ryan: True, over activity is a bad thing, and hard to manage. Maybe this is one of the reasons Oliver put off a new skin for so long.
Morgoth: Nah, I think it's just because he's lazy and can't actually make a skin. I heard - heard, it's only a rumour - that he's actually employed house elves to make it.
Ryan: What is your obsession with Madonna all about? She is clearly too old for you.
Morgoth: Madonna is brilliant, she's so great. She's so many different things, she can be controversial, unassuming, serious, fun, but there's one thing that unites all her different aspects: brilliance. She's just, uber; she wouldn't have such success otherwise. Indeed, there's only one woman better: Kate Bush. And no, she's not too old
Ryan: He he. What's your relationship with Oliver like?
Morgoth: It's alright. We've got our sides to the bed, and we stick to them. Sometimes I've felt something trying to, you know, cross the borders we've drawn. It's only been the pet turkey, though. Our professional relationship is fine, too.
Ryan: How about the other staff, you get along with them alright?
Morgoth: I've not got that much contact with the other staff. It's more the old staff that I used to talk to, and when the new ones came in I began to lose track to be honest. But yeah, I've no problem with any of them and they're all the best people for the jobs they do.
Ryan: They are great people to talk to, and always do want to help. Have you gone to any wild parties at Oliver's house lately?
Morgoth: Maybe. But the bump I have around my stomach is completely unconnected to whatever parties I may - or may not - have been to at Oliver's house.
Ryan: Huh. *wonders* Would you like to be Joseph? You get to marry a virgin.
Morgoth: Been there, done that, bought the T shirt. And I've always found the role of Jesus to be more productive, he went on to do some pretty big things, you know.
Ryan: Yeah, I understand. Though I think James has the role of Jesus covered.
Morgoth: Ah well.
Ryan: Don't tell him, but I am interviewing Criminal Mastermind right now.
Morgoth: Oh my
Ryan: Yes indeed.
Morgoth: Is the interview over?
Ryan: Well, anything you want to tell our viewers about?
Morgoth: Firstly, look out for my book. As it progresses, I'll post extracts and stuff possibly. Also, when it's published, buy it, make me rich and happy. But most importantly: Kate Bush is a genius.
Ryan: Ah ah. What is your books name, if it has one?
Morgoth: I've held back from revealing it to the wider community, only the select proofreaders I've sent significant stuff to know it. But perhaps now is the time; the title will generate more attention than any little extract. It is called 'The 9/11 Conspiracy'.
Ryan: Ah ha! I expect a good book. Or I may just have to give you the boot. The boot is very smelly.
Morgoth: Only positive reviews so far Maybe if you're lucky, I'll send you the prologue or something. In fact, the prologue is in the Literature board, under 'Untitled, so far'. Technically, that is an absolute lie: I knew the title before I even started the book, but I didn't want to spill it.
Ryan: He he, thanks for that. You want to say any last words before I end this?
Morgoth: Yes: HWEOHETFUTRYLSTEURLTEI
