SOTW 82 Alright, my theme choice for my first SOTW did not go as well as planned. I'll go with some sure-fire themes for the first couple of weeks, and then perhaps we can try some more--irregular, yet interesting--ideas. As well guys, you should always give me suggestions for themes. If you don't, I might end up doing another one of these. The turnout for this was terrible, and I don't think you and I want SOTW to die away! This list is shorter than I had hoped for, but let's go on!
jongos - Jongos, I absolutely loved your signature. In fact, I was almost sure that it was going to win when I was looking at the entires. The creativity is there, the graphic style is there, the simplistic look is there, except...the text is really not a pun. It's more of a joke, to think of it. I would've liked to pick your signature for a winner, but I couldn't because it didn't fit the theme. _ρь.$€®PÊц™ - This signature would be nice, if it were perhaps trying to win an abstract battle. I think that you could've added a picture or created the signature with the text integrated, instead of just an abstract signature with a pun sorta "slapped" onto it. [Faint] - This signature was nicely done with the plain white, sort of minimalistic look. However, I think you could've eliminated the guitar picks and just had a closeup of the guitar, or the frets on the guitar. Would've helped to work with the pun, about frets and fretting. And our winner this week is Assasinator! I really liked the simplicity of your signature. I think the text really works here, and you've chosen approriate fonts for pun and theme. The colours all go together, and everything just ties in nicely.

SOTW #83Nice big turnout this week, glad to see it. Thanks guys.
@ngeloffire - I like the message that this signature implies, and it is quite humourous. As well, though, it seems like the way you have the two images on each side makes the text the focal point, and it is not to attractive at the moment. I think that you could've done a bit more typography with it and made it more appealing. bratzer - I love all your signatures because at first glance they all look trendwhore to me, but after I look more closely at them I can see that they arn't at all, but they are totally unique. The one thing that bugs me in thi signature is the bright-white patch in the bottom-right corner. I think it could've matched the two left ones and faded into black. The font of the text "Abstract Dreams" could've also been different from the title font. Reedy - Oh reedy, so typical of you. I love your work because it always seems lso simple until I REALLY look at it. For instance, this signature just looked abstract to me until I looked at it more closely, and found that it was 2 characters. My one suggestions would be to perhaps add some more colour to the background and parts of the signature that are not the characters because they are quite difficult to read atm. Shadow FX - Shadow, I can tell that you put alot of effort into this signature. I love the whole dragon idea, but I'm not sure if the sparkles and shines are needed here. They are often over-used and considered trendwhore. It looks like there are not that many potential spots for text on this signature, so I can understand why you didn't put any on. However, I recommend always putting text on signatures. .shaun - I like the simple, 2 colour type of thing you've used here. However, when working with so few colours one needs to make sure to have lots of interesting details. For instance, you could've had some of the circles with lots of rings, some with different widths, and such. Also, as I said for Shadow FX, always try and have some sort of text on a signature. Assassinator - I like the idea, however overused it is by others, pf having a lightsource behind and a silhouette in front in shadow. However, I think the orange background could've been a bit more flourescent, and a bit brighter to add more contrast between the silhouette and it. And our winner today is ssj. His signature, however eye-rolling, is bright, colourful, and leaves a very happy, bubbly feeling inside you. I love the text and typography that you've done here, with the box and the heart. Even if it Jessica Alba. [Just Joking]

SOTW #84The one thing I love about tpyography is that everyone is on an equal level. I don't know anyone in Digital Art that says their favourite/most common style of art is "typography".
White.night - I like the grey-white palette you've used here, very typography-ish. The one thing about this signature is that it is very cluttered. I think that you could've chosen a couple of the texts and removed others, so that the focus was more on a select few. Jonny - I agree with you about the border. This signature would look alot better if it was on a dark background and a white border. The one thing I would've done differently would've been to make the HEX value all the same height by aligning it, or choosing a better font for it. mondo66 - I think that this signature is a nice concept. However, the edges of the puzzle pieces could've been sharpened alot more, so they wern't fuzzy. As well, I think that the duplicate of the text wasn't needed, but you could've just scrambled the word SCRAMBLED, but not so much that it wasn't ledgible. c130 - I love the thought behind your signatures. I love the concept behind this one. The one that really puts me off this signature are the small, black lines that divide the text and the line beside the man's face. As well, I would've removed the 1px black line beside the right edge of the signature. [icedhead] - I love the blue colour you've used in this signature. I think that you could've chosen a better word for this signature. With typography, it is very important that your signature be based on your theme, and with this signature it feels to me like DREAMING was picked out of random. I think that the text overlap could've been removed as well, it makes it very hard to read. And our winner this week, is Ryan. His signature combined 2 style, a minimalistic style white a large white background and a fancy, medieval font. It creates a simple, but proffesional modern signature. + Custom Title.

SOTW #85 Happy Valentines Day!
Our theme this week was Valentines day and love in general. Almost all of the entries had those lovely pink, purple, and reds that we all love seeing at this time of year.
LPF - I love the simple colour palette you've chosen here, and how you've used blending options to make it very purdyful. I think that the heart is a bit uncentered vertically, as there is alot of space above it, and not as much below it. As well, the font colour could be darker as it is very hard to read. Arty McFarty - I can see the faint white border here, but on SSD white borders don't really work at all. The only suggestion I have for this signature is that you might've wanted to make the subtext "how sweet it is" a little bit bigger as it sort of difficult to read, however I love the font choice for the word "love". Xephra - I love the heart/splatter combo you've used here. There's only 2 things that bug me about this signature. One, I would've continued the white/1px purple border all the way around the signature, including the jagged edge. As well, I would've made the text a simple, plain white font with no stroke or gradient. Tony - I like how you've sort of "compromised" the lightness issue on the SSD background by adding a nice white/1px black border. As well, I think the "kiss" looks very nice here. The one thing I would change would be to make the heart a bit sharper and more distinct from the background. Shard - I love the font you've chosen for the text in this signature. The one thing that bugs is the busyness of the background, I think it should be less busy. As well, the hearts could be all one colour, or at least a closer shade to eachother. Our winner this week is c130. Her lovely signature prompted the viewer to think about what they were seeing. I love the fact that you can't really tell what the object is, and it makes you wonder what the boy could be giving the girl. As well, I love the concept of the "nerdy boy" with glasses nervous about giving the girl the present and her gladly accepting it.

SOTW #86This SOTW I was hoping for some really original entries, rather than abstract brushing, smudging, or anything like that. Some of you made wonderful entries, but I didn't find them unique. Colour, and shape, they can abstract, but I was hoping for some more abstract ideas.
Jonny - Jonny, I like the simpleness that you have here, which you don't find in many abstract theme signatures. The colours both go nice together, with the simple white background. The only thing that I don't like is that there is no real "focus" in this signature. Mitch - Mitch, I like the idea you've used with having many colours which you don't see in many abstract pieces. However, they do clash somewhat. As well, I would've included the "abstract" title in the signature. White.night - I think the one thing that first strikes me about this signature is that it's very busy. As well, the render on the top of signature doesn't fit at all with the black and white background you've given here. As well, the mix of a pixel-y background and a smooth render doesn't flow very well. c130 - Arn't you all glad she didn't win. <3 Anyway, I love your signature grace. It's all very abstract and random, but I find that there is a lot to focus on. This can good, but I find that I can't make up my mind on what to focus on, so the focal point is lost. Dr. Napalm - I really like this signature, and the simplistic style. There are only a couple of little thing that bug me. 1, I would've gotten rid of the inner border you've given this signature. 2, I would've eliminated the "Abstract Art" text and moved the "How Zen of You" text up and the the right so it was in the centre of the signature. SirAuron - This signature has really nice composition, and I like how you have the two 'layers' so to speak. Anyway, I would've sharpened the black figurine in the foreground and instead of having a lighter overlay border, would've just done a simple black 2-3px border. Our winner this week is Jem. Some of you more advanced graphic artists may say that his graphics are not the best, but in this competition I look for more than graphics stylings. I look for the theme and the message of the signature. I simply liked Jem's the best. The only thing I would try to do was go for a much simpler font, like Arial size 10-12. That font is WAY, WAY overused.

SOTW #87I like the number of entries we got this week, if only there were this many each week.
Tony - I like the background here, even if it is overused in art. The one thing I would get rid of is the text that says "tonyhighsmith" and "blue//emotions", so that the main text can seem more important. As well, I might've gotten rid fo the black border outside of the white one. Jynx - I like the colours here, and you have a nice a contrast. The one thing here is that in larger resolutions, the text is really small and therefore it makes it hard to read. As well, the "render-centred on abstract background" concept is a bit overused. Jonny - I think the concept here is nice, except there is no detail. I know that minimalism is argueable, but I think that there is a limit to where you can go. It's hard to judge 2 texts against other styles. Josh - This signature has very lovely colours, and I like the way it almost has ripples. The one thing I don't like is how there seems to be no focal point, except maybe the text. Shaun - I love all the colours you've used in this signature. The only colour I would've changed is the colour of the background trees and ground to an even darker shade of black. Ovi - As someone stated in the Discussion topic, the background pattern is a bit blurry, but I like the two colours together. The 2 bright colours work well together. Crestfallen - I love that little character, he's cute. The one thing I don't like about this signature is the top part of the signature, which has shapes in the background. As well, the layout might've been better if the signature had been less tall and the text was in line with the bottom of the character. Our winner this week is Xephra. His signature was based on all the colours. A perfect blend of minimalism with quite a bit detail when examined closely, its an awesome signature and the simple, large text explains it all.

SOTW #88It's been a llittle while since I have done one of these, but I'll be doing the next two, while Uzukami is on Holiday. This week the theme was based around texture. Texture is all around us and on the whole thats what we saw, a variety of different interpretations. Here are some of the entries which caught my eye, the winner for this was a very close call. Don't feel bad if you aren't included in this list. There are other chances.
Diviso - Your entry had something intresting about it, it was different that you represented it in small sqaures rather than a large background. I think your text would of benefited from being outside of the little boxes though. The Tominator - I thought that this was a good effort, especially with what looks like an ink stained bottle, I do think the colour could be toned down slightly more. Also I'd suggest a bolder looking font. SniperJrd - Yours was a good entry too, but it was lacking in contrast, you had some nice texture, but nothing which really grabbed the eye. Your text could do with being brought upwards and by using a brighter colour such as white. Jonny - I like the fact that the colours are mixed quite well and that there are various highlights showing through, but the green and red for me seem like a strange combination, that might be just me though. I felt you could do something more interesting with the text, perhaps distort the angle of the characters. s h a u n - Another near winner yet again, I like your clean cut approach to the theme, I do feel that more could of been brought out of the cloud texture, perhaps lightening some of the clouds up a little bit. The solitary man at the bottom looks good though. Once again this weeks win goes to Xephra, there is some great texture on here, I do like the little bubble effect which has been created and it is what draws you to the image. Not so keen that it's almost repeated though. The text is simple along with the border which fits in nicely! Well done

SOTW #89This weeks theme was rather broad one "culture" . That should spring quite a few things to mind, some less obvious than others. A lower turnout, although I partially put that down to the explanation of the theme. Here are the entries that stood out the most to me, don't feel bad if you haven't made this list this time around, there are other chances for you to try.
The Tominator - A nice simple looking signature here, I think the purple background works well. I think it would of been better if the gradient was at a 90 degree angle instead. You have a little area on the left where the white starts again. Maybe bring your two lines of text closer, I like the font choices. The image here is good, I like the glow, however the image quality does seem to let it down. kisskiss - I think that this signature is fine, it fits in with the theme well, Although you could of perhaps focused on one of the players more. I think it would look better without the sub-text. Tony - The colour is good here, it blends in rather well I feel. Perhaps your text would be good with a fill for the text, so that it stands out more, I'd perhaps give white a try. I think the images in the background could be more prominent though. White.Night - I thought the background colour here was nice, aswell as the arrows. I think that the actual texture could be brought out more into the piece. I'd perhaps try some thicker sans serif fonts here, rather than something too thin or script like. N-Sane - The mask is a very nice idea here, it works very well with the background colours. I would reduce the amount of texture in the background though, so that there is more attention directed towards the mask itself. I'd make the top line of text white too Shaun//Pojo - Once again I like the simplicity of this piece, the text illustrates the meaning really well. However I don't think the piece is really that original, I think ti would be good to see something which wasn't of the typical silhouette style. Crestfallen - I rather liked this one, although I'm not a fan of the stroke around the text here. The colours in the background complimented each other nicely. The border around the edge is good too. And for this weeks winner: SniperJrd - The image blends nicely with the more abstract looking background, I like the fact that there isn't too much going on here. My one suggestion would be to have perhaps brought more of the face mask in here. The text is done rather well, good choice of fonts

SOTW #90 This week's theme was a revisited once, based around the four elements of fire, wind, water and earther. A lower than expected turnout however, which was a shame to see. Nevertheless there is still a list of entries which caught my eye.
Nick - I like the simple ideas brought into this one, sometimes the simplest things are the best. However, I think more could of been done with each symbol, maybe more of a 3D feel would of been good here. I also think grey text would of been nice too. SniperJrd - I thought that this was ok, although more losely fitting along the lines of the theme, I felt that the background could been better in the way of contrast. Your text here really needed to stand out a bit more too kickassmat - An interesting entry, I'm not so much a fan of the thick circle which is just off slightly at the bottom. But I like the kind of hand-drawn approach which it has within the circle. The text was nice and clear, although I don't think you really needed a snow capped look to the text. Foamy™ - A good amount of texture in the background, matches up with the theme well. I think more could of been done with the text though. If you had a darker area on your signature your text would stand out a lot more, I'd try sticking to thicker fonts on your work. And for this week's winner.... Jonny - Oversized slightly but I liked the simplicity of this one, the though of something flowing in the wind came to mind when looking at this, as it doesn't quite follow the same format as the others. The photo is nice, I like the texture on the flower which you have captured. I would perhaps take off the line in the middle though.

SOTW #91Well I'm back guys, I've had some fun holidays, and now it's back to work! Nice turnout this week.
Tony - I like this signature, one of my favourite colour sets to work with! I think the one thing that bugs me about the signature is the faded 2006 in the background. I think that it doesn't suit the rest of the signature at all. Crestfallen - I like the bold colours you've worked with here. In general, this is a wonderful signature. The one thing that bugs me is how, unoriginal this is. As well, it reminds me of alot of your other signatures. Igi.ex - I love how the 4 images are different, but yet all the same. I think the two main things that could be improved was the quality of the images and the gradient and drop shadow you've put on the text. LPF - I love the combination of purple and the light yellow-ish in this signature. The render is blended perfectly. Not overblended, but not too outstanding. The only [slighty-daring] move I might've made was to remove the text completely. ShadowFX - I think the gaming render used here is a style way overused. The one thing I really like is how you've used a cheap, tutorial-whored filter effect and used it to make a a really neat background for a signature. Ovi - I love the deep blue colour you've used in this signature. Wherever you found this render, I love it. It reminds me of a game I used to play called Ragnarok. The only thing that really bugs me is the 'zOmG' text underneath Sasuke. SSJ Sonic-X - I love the green colours used in this signature. But, again with the game renders! I love the main text, but I find that for me it's impossible to read the bottom two lines in the white pixel font and it is constantly nagging at me as to what it actually says. And our winner, The Tominator! I love this signature. It's so different from all the other entries, and it stood out as being most unique. The blue colour is very attractive and easy on the eyes, and the statue flows with the background very well. The one thing I would do is the make the light blue text darker or somehow easier to read.

SOTW #92This week the theme was based around freedom, a good amount of high quality entrants this week. Here are some of those which caught my eye. Don't feel bad if you're not included on this list.
loverboiv2 - I think the signature is ok, although I don't think all the text is needed there, the "I have a dream" gets the point across easily. Perhaps adding a little colour to the butterfly would be good here. Ovi - A rather simple looking signature, I like the bold white text against the background, however I'm not sure how the illustration in the background works here. Also the "SSD SOTW" part isn't really needed. The Tominator - I think the colours worked well here, they bring in a historic feel, the background seems too textured, the filtered effects are generally things to be well hidden or avoided. Shaun - The idea was good here, I liked the simplicity, I felt you could of done with a little more lighting where the flower and hand was. Also a bolder second line of text, I would aim to make the bottom line of text equal the top in legnth. Tony - I think the choice of images here is good, works with the theme well, the colour seems slightly flat, you could probably include some lovely colours with the clouds. However, the text needs some better placement, the second line is almost hidden, I'd aim to keep the text together. jongos - The texture isn't too bad, but I think stronger shades of brown/yellow showing into the background work would well. I don't think the text there is ideal placed in the corner. Try bringing it to the middle. And for this weeks' winner: LPF A great choice of stock image here, the black and white photo really helps to add a darker mood to the signature. I'd perhaps increase the opacity of the "misery" text though. The text itself is positioned nicely too.

SOTW #93The theme this week was based around animals. Creatures that are really all around us, whether as pets, endangered animals, mythical creatures that you've read about in childhood or animals being part of a song. Overall a pleasing turnout this week, would be good to increase the numbers a little bit more though. Here is a list of those entries which I thought were particually good, dont' feel upset if you weren't included this time around, SOTW runs each week, so there is plenty of time to improve.
loverboiv2 - I think the colours on here are good, they look appealing, the images work well here too. I think your text could be made a little bit bolder though, perhaps better without the underline. LPF - I thought this had some potential, but I feel that the butterfly could of stood out much more, it seemed too much like another insect or something, the wings need to stand out. I think some of the background could of been plainer too. Crestfallen - A nice signature, the colours here were fine, although the size was quite significantly smaller than the usual limit. Shaun - I felt that this signature was a little too dark, while there are good ideas here, I feel you need to break away from these silhouette style images or try to make them a little bit more original looking. The bottom line of text could be made so there is more spacing between the characters. Ovi - The idea here was good, again though, the style of it isn't that original looking. I think a font which is similar in style to Arial may of worked well for this. Assassinator - I liked the stock images in the background, the two spots of light on there seem a little distracting though. I also think your text was too small here, perhaps it would be better a little bit bigger and moved out of the corner. And for this weeks' winner... Tony I thought that the colours here were appealing, the elephant itself was actually nicely blended into the background, which I think fits this signature. I would work on the text by bringing it closer together, maybe having it all on the left. Well done!

SOTW #94This weeks' was based around Food and Drink, again I like to chose these nice wide themes, a small amount of entries but nevertheless we still have a decent sized list of those entries which I thought are all welll deserving of a mention. If you don't get a mention this time around, there is always the next time.
Bennedetto - I think that the idea here was good, but it needs to be executed a little better, perhaps make sure that the text is fully visible here. I think its good to keep the two lines of text nice and close together too. Rather than a water bottle, I would of gone for a more natural look perhaps and added more contrast in the background. SniperJrd - A rather simple but nice idea, I like the two colours, of course they contrast very well. It was mainly the text being the let down here, it would probably be best within the black parts of the signature. beam - The background here is nice, the abstract look does work well, but it really does not fit too well with the theme. I think the ice cream would be better off on a more colourful background with some smooth shapes. The Tominator - I though the water background was good, it could of done with a little bit more contrast I think. I'd perhaps reduce the spacing on the text too, maybe make the second line bigger also. Ovi - I think that this is one of your best ones, the colours here work really well, a great combination, the apple is ok here, but does seem to be the main part of the signature like it should be, I think the text would be better off if you used a different font, perhaps moving it out of the apple would be good. And finally for this weeks' winner: Jonny - A great photo as usual, the colour in the background suit it well, the solitary drop of water has a really significant feel to it, The text has been kept nice and simple, your name could be moved over to the right just a little more.

SOTW #95Not long now before we reach the big milestone of 100. This SOTW theme was all based around Weather. Many chose to explore the path of tropical storms whilst others settled for some rain. However, on the whole the overall turnout was lower than expected. Here are some of the entries that I thought deserved a mention on the list, remember if you aren't on the list this time, there are plenty of other chances to get on it
Pb Serpent - I thought that this one had some potential, I quite liked the grainy texture in the background here. I think you could bring in some clouds here, just to add to it a little bit more. I'm not so keen on the blur with the text though. Crestfallen - I like the smooth style of this signature, perhaps a some stronger looking colours could be used though, maybe brighter yellows, oranges and blues. I'd maybe move the text upwards slightly. [TAO REN] - I liked reading your description for this one, although I do think you'd be able to bring that across in a larger piece, on this its hard to make out the little details that you refer to. Perhaps you could use a green/brown text here, I thought the font worked well. Ovi - Some great colours in use for this one, it really does stand out well. I also like the more irregular shape that has been applied, helps it to look more interesting. Though I think you need a little more than a stock image here. This weeks' win goes to: C130 A very different looking signature, slightly under size but nevertheless an original idea coupled with a traditional rhyme. I think the bold type works really well here. Good Job.

SOTW #96First off aplogies for the delay, I had some internet connection problems. This week our theme was based around sports and leisure, a greater number of entries than last week which was pleasing, however the overall quality did seem to be down, this is reflected in this list. The ones mentioned are the entries which I feel were particually good and therefore deserve a mention.
The Tominator - I like the fact that you have kept the signature nice and simple with the attention focused on just the one player. I would try and get away from the filtered looking backgrouds though. I think the top line of text could of been clearer though. Tony - I thought that the 3 different colours here work really well together, I see you have added an NBA logo but it would be good if it had something more original on it. I wasn't really looking for people to be pasting on logos. I think your text could look a little bit less like a pixel font. adam ftw - This wan't too bad, I do think the three colours in the background could of stood out more though. I think the two lines of text would be bette if you aligned them so they were around the same legnth. White.Night - I liked the idea of including the Olympic symbols here, but ideally they'd be better on a plain background, there seems to be too much texture in the background. Your lighter curve at the top would also look more effective this way. And for our winner: Ovi - An interesting signature, I like the use of colour, especially on the character it compliments the signature well. Overall it has a very simple but to the point feel about it, I like that. I would perhaps keep all the text the same thickness though.

SOTW #97An impressive turnout this week, a non theme SOTW but some great entries which made the judging a lot harder to decide upon. As usual I have selected some of this weeks' highlights, if you haven't been included this time around there are plenty of chances in future SOTW's.
Mitch! - I think the bright colours are a good thing, but I think there could be a bit more variation with the reds there. The text is clear, but I think it could be made a little bit bigger. You could really do with some kind of main focus too. Ovi - A good signature this one, I would of liked to see more darker areas though, but the background does seem interesting. The additional text doesn't really feel like it's needed, I saw my name in there but I can't quite read the rest. Ryan - I thought that your idea was good, but I don't think the white background helped you out, perhaps an orange or bluebackground would be better. I see the grass is different shades of green but I think within those there could be more variation. Jonny - This was a good signature, the colours have a nice warm feeling to them. The photo though doesn't look particually interesting, perhaps if we could see more of it, it would of made a difference. Assassinator - Quite a different signature this one, the colours used work well together, a nice amount of contrast, the signature itself catches the eye. I think the edges on the signature look a little rough, a curve would be good. c130 - I think that the image here looks interesting, to me it looks like a milk float but I may be wrong, I think some more colours may look nice here. I'm not so keen on the bunched up text, I think that would work better on a bigger canvas. And for this week's winner: Reedy - What I like here is the mix of colours, some oranges, blues and whites, a great combination. The image is placed nicely here and the colours in the background really work well with it. I would like to see a little more of the pink text though. +Custom Title Earnt.

SOTW #98This week SOTW was based around famous quotes, quite a challenging them it turned out, but thanks to all those who gave it a shot. Below are some of the signatures that stood out to me most this week. Don't feel bad if you aren't included in this week's list, there are plenty of other chances to enter the contest.
Virtuoso - I thought that the idea was nice, it would be more effective if the money here looked more blood stained, rather than just having some sort of overlay on them. The quote here was a little bit difficult to read I thought. The colours worked well though. adam ftw - The image in the middle was nicely positioned along with the text. The colours used in the background were nice, but the background didn't really seem interesting enough. GDF - A nice image used here, the background works well with the image too. The text could of done with looking a little bit clearer though. Perhaps a brighter colour would help here. Ovi - Quite a clean looking signature this one, I like it how you have kept the focus on the character here, the vector has all the main features which is good. It's not overly detailed, I don't think thats needed for a signature. I would of liked to see a little more focus on the eyes maybe, since thats what your quote seems to to relate to. c130 - This was a nice entry, the idea was exected quite nicely, I think the little devil illustration could of been a little bigger perhaps. I'm not so sure about the grainy red parts in the background however. For this week's winner: Assassinator Assassinator - Definately one of the more creative pieces this week, fits in with the theme nicely. The images are well positioned, I like what you've done with the eye, though the blood doesn't look that realistic. I think you could make the border thinner perhaps, also removing that duplicated text in the background would help.

SOTW #99This week our theme was abstract, we had a good collection of images entered which was nice to see. Below are the list of entries that I thought were worth a mention this well, as usual if you aren't included there will be plenty of other chances. The other thing is that this is the last two digit SOTW, which is kinda scary to think how long we have been doing these.
.:creatvisions:. - I thought the colours on this one worked well enough, the black stood out. However, there seems to be a lack of focus to it, i.e. nothing to really draw you to it. Gojiita - I liked the mix of colours on this, I thought the ones chosen here worked well with each other, a good bit of contrast here. The main thing that it did lack was a clear focal point to it. I would of chosen a bolder looking font though. Britt - The colours were good on this too, I think more could of been made of the sort of fiery centre. I would of moved the text up a little bit so that its less stuck to the edges. I was less keen on the writing in the background, it didn't feel like it was needed. Josh - This was a nice entry, the colours and background were quite good. The stock image could of been better cut out though, seems very soft around the edges. I think the text could of stood out a little bit more. Ovi - A very interesting entry but not abstract, it would be ideal in a surreal contest. The main aim of this was the emphasis on this was things which don't resemble items from reality. For this week's win: Congratulations to dlt. The little sparkles in the background were good, the contrast could of been improved a little I felt. The way the text if formed is piratically good though, it looks rather neat. Overall a great entry!

SOTW #100100 weeks of SOTW, some people get shorter prison sentences for burglary. This week's task was to design a signature and avatar set to be used for the Official Herald Account. We had some great entries for this, picking a winner wasn't that easy either. Here is a list of the entries that I think are particually worthy of a mention here, don't feel bad if you aren't included this time around.
Ellie - I thought the texture and rough paper look which you went for here, worked well. It was a nice idea, the main faults came on the avatar with the square edge to the right. I think the book could be a little smoother. Eternity - I thought the colours which you used on here were sound, nothing wrong there. I felt the lines in the background of the signature could of looked a little smoother, that would work well with the simple feel running through your set. Maybe a little more consistency with the text too. . adam - Again the colours were rather nice, though I didn't feel the entry was strongly enough related to the herald. Nevertheless, the background looked nice. Jonny - I thought the concept was nice, very rolling stones like. I thought the extending line could of looked a bit smoother, I'm not too keen how it cuts into the text. Perhaps the teeth could of been more detailed? Ethan - Some nice soft colours here, but the piece really needed some sort of main focus. Perhaps something more Herald related. I would liked to see the "The" the same size as the text next to it. Scott - I thought that his was an excellent idea, a close winner infact. The colours are nice here, they work well with the theme. The lines coming off from the pen don't really flow here. Perhaps a gradient would be nice in the background. This week's winner is: dlt! Another very simplistic approach, it looks effective though, a very clean looking set. I think the Herald book is good way of making it fit in with the theme. Overall a very nicely executed set, congratulations. + "SOTW Champion" title awarded + Bonus Custom title

SOTW #101Our theme this week was based around Typography with the main aim of getting people to think about the kinds of fonts they use for things. However, a few little errors were found, a good number of you mis-understod the rules with the idea being to base it around one word. So it was less complicated than it may of seemed. Nonetheless there were still some nice entries. Below is a list of entries that I thought were worthy of a mention Thanks goes to Morgoth and Kari who helped in the decision process. Tony - I quite liked the bold text that you used here, that illustrates the meaning of the word well, the placement of the text seemed a little bit random though. A few bolder colours here might of been good too. dlt - This wasn't a bad entry, clearly illustrates the "mess" feel of things, but I think more focus could of been put on the actual "mess" text. You have various other lines of text which stand a little too much. JDYgamer - I thought that this was a good efffort, must of taken some time to do. I think it might be better without such a lot of text in the background, just a white background would of probably worked well here. Ovi - I quite like the different colours that have been used for the "i"'s here and you have illustrated the meaning well. I'm not so sure about the green background it seems a little dull, I think white might of worked a little better for this. Eternity - I liked this entry too, another one that looked like it took ages to complete, I would of moved the text up more into the middle. Perhaps a lsome lightly brighter colours would be good here, especially for the background and the green part of the kiwi. .:creatvisions:. - I thought that this was a nice entry, the font chosen worked with the idea well, I also liked the text fill part of it. The main downfall for this I felt was that it could of stood out more, just making the white brighter would do the trick. A close winner! For this week's win, it goes to...Jonny The carrot idea was very nicely pulled off, the carrot stands out well against the background. The thickness of the fonts and the spacing of characters all seem to flow well. Well done!
