Medievil Style Border
1) Firstly, we'll make the wooden border so make a new document that is 450 by 20 pixels and fill it with a suitable brown colour, I used #32261E.
2) Now we need to make it stand out a little so go to layer>layer style>bevel and emboss and use the following settings.
3) Once you've done that, its time to make the colour a little better, for this, we'll use a colour overlay so choose that option and enter the details below.
4) Looking better? Now for the grainy effect. To do this we'll use a gradient overlay so choose that option and enter the following.
It doesn't matter what colour your graident is, but to get it to look like the one I have above, click the center of the gradient and choose noise.
You now should have something like the image below. Now doesn't that look lovelly?
5) Now we'll work on the bolts to make our wooden border look medievil. Create a new document, 100 by 100 pixels in dimention. Select a square in the middle by using the rectangular marquee tool () and holding shift as you drag. Then fill it wih a medium grey. I used #454545.
6) Press Ctrl + T and turn the square by 90 degrees so that you have a diamond shape.
7) Now, select a 2 pixel wide rectangle down the center of the diamond, and a 3 pixel high rectangle across its middle. Then using the dodge tool () create a light grey cross over the diamond. It doesn't matter what settings you use here as long as the brush is a big enough size to fit over the lines you just drew.
Looks bad at the moment but trust me it'll look better soon.
8) Now grab the burn tool ( hold alt + click the dodge tool to show it) and set it to the following.
Now slightly darken the bottom left triangle and darken the bottom right triangle a bit more.
9) Get the dodge tool again and using the same settings lighten the top left corner.
Looking better isn't it?
10) Now, change the dodge tools settings to the following and lighten the edges of the entire diamond.
11) Now, select the burn tool and using the same settings from step 10, burn the center of the triangles like below.
12) Now, drag the diamond into your wooden image and shrink it down to fit. Then copy and paste as many as you like and there you have it
More can be found on my website =)
