Creating Textures - Photoshop 7.0
Textures are brilliant to use on your graphics because they add a more in-depth touch to your work.
Example:
This image doesn't look as good as
this one:
Making a texture is simple but a lot of users dont know how to make one, thats why I have made this tutorial.
Firstly you need to have a new document with a transparent background ready. The size of the document is up to you. For this tutorial I will show you how to create the texture on the above image, I used 1 by 2 pixel size. Also its easier if you use greyscale as colour does not affect textures.
1. Reset your colours by pressing D.
2. Zoom in so its easier to draw.
3. Click on the brush/pencil tool (right click if it displays a brush and select pencil).
4. Now you can start to draw! For my example I just filled in one square in black. If you alter the opacity the depth that a texture will be different for example; the darker the shade of grey the deeper the texture will go.
5. When you have finished your texture you can save it by going to File then Save! I recommend you create a folder called textures within your documents. You save the file as a photoshop file (.psd).
6. Create or open the graphics you want your texture applied to.
7. Click on the layer that you would like the texture applied to so thats its highlighted for editing.
8. Go to Filter, Texture & Texturizer. A prompt should appear.
9. On the Texture drop down menu select load texture and a open screen will appear.
10. Open the texture you made. Now on the texturizer prompt alter the settings to your preference. Your texture might not take affect at first so alter the relief to 1.
Well thats it! You can if you wish load up and psd file and use it as a texture but the ones that can b tiled together make the best ones to use.
Hope this tutorial will help!
