I am using Dell's Paint Shop Pro eedition, as far as I know it works in the same way as Jasc's edition. Anyway I want to take an image, remove all of the white at the side of it and then make it blend in with the background. Please help.

Either use eraser to carefully erase the white of the BG, or the BG Eraser, so that that it's cleanly cut, or the magic wand, and select the white and press delete. That should take care of the white. Once taken care of, lower the transperency using the layer pallette, which you can access by going to View>>Pallettes>>Layers. Also, if you want only a portion of the white to be tranparent, use the eraser at a lowered transperency. Good luck.
