I created this avatar to go alone with the website and set the background to transparent but for some reason it has the white pixels around it. Can anyone explain how to fix this problem? It looks great on a white background. img159.imageshack.us/img159/6219/avatarx.gif

You're probably going to want to just put a background in there. GIFs have limited color selection so when you have smooth edges, the file needs to find a way to make it so that you fit those requirements. Smooth edges use tons of different colored pixels to give it a smooth look so to offset that, saving it as a GIF gives it the white border you see there to get rid of some of the smoothness and thus some of the colors.
