I'm currently developing a logo for a client: 99designs.com/contests/9969/designers/259723As you can see in #308 there is a chunk cut of the text through the U. Currently, it is just covered by a white rectangle, I was wondering if there is anyway just to mask out the text here so that it is see through at this point. Oh, and I want to keep the logo vector, so rasterising and cutting is a final resort for me! Any help guys, quick?! thanks

Any help guys, quick?! thanks you want that area to be see through - so - that whatever the client places the "logo" upon the color or object below will show through. I'd imagine yes - I've not used photoshop in awhile so i'm not overly familiar with it but I believe you can erase the section's background so you see nothing - and saving it in the correct format will keep its transparency. that's what I'd do at least - the problem comes with the pixels because its an awkward shape. I'm sure someone will come along soon and give you a better option.

*sigh* I said I wished to keep it vector. I have quite a bit of photoshop experience. I know how to rasterise the text and erase the parts of the text I want, but that is my FINAL option. If I rasterise it, then it cannot be resized.
I am essentially asking, is there a way to subtract one shape from another in photoshop 7? (yes, I still haven't upgraded, will do with my new mac in the autumn!)

Don't worry guys. Just found the subtract shape option on the pen tool. This makes me look like such a photoshop noob. Just shows you can't know it all!
