I am making a new layout for my forum's anniversary, and I was wondering, how can I add gold to the banner, on/off icons, menu buttons, etc. without them looking just plain yellow-ish or orange? Like actual shiny gold.

Thanks, those are good tuts.
Any idea how I could incorporate that into the banner? Other than the text I mean.

Make a little medal? Or apply the gold style to your main title text?

Okay. (by the way, the color scheme for the layout is red and gold) So, here's my idea for the banner: There will be three images, and the background will have brushes of red and a gold color, and the images could either just keep their color or be colorized a little red, then the text can have the gold effect from one of those tutorials.
Would that match the scheme well?

I'd imagine that as long as you're using red and gold throughout, you won't have any problems getting the colours to match up. Red tends to go with gold quite well.
If you're not confident that you can keep everything matching just by eye, choose a palette of gold, black, white, and three shades of red, and stick to those colours for everything on the site.
