That is, starting June 12th at 9:01pm Pacific - What's your take? Mine? I hope it doesn't turn out like MySpace

The point behind facebook was you could look people up by their name. If you didn't know their name, you shouldn't be friends. Next thing you know you can allow to "Auto add" people as friends.
Myspace 2.0

I'm not too happy about this. Their next "feature" will be allowing people to actually display usernames instead of their real names. Fuck that. One of the big reasons I dumped Myspace for Facebook way back when WAS because it used peoples' real names instead of any fake bullshit.

...oh please. I'm happy about this. I hate having my name displayed to people. It doesn't matter if they don't know you, your name can still be seen. And I frankly am not fond of it. It'll be nice to have this implemented.

So the only thing that will be changing is the URL.

They aren't doing that. That was me trying to predict the future and be a smartass. Let's take a minute to pay attention to the one word in my sentence that makes you look like an idiot.

There could very well be a setting to have your "username" displayed to people who can't normally view your profile but then again this would take away the the metaphorical 'face' from "facebook" and I myself can't see it happening~ Btw, this is post number 12,000th post. Quoted for Emphasis

It won't bother me either way, but with how easy it is to get a lot of information on someone with very little, ie a name, it's probably going to be done for safety more than anything. Personally, I think FB is a bit too open for people to get information as is. Sure, it's nice, but having worked in collections, I know just how easy it is to track someone down; and all you need to know is a full name and city in which they reside, usually. You're not supposed to be friends with people you don't know, sure, but it's still difficult to make the profiles totally private. So really, in the long run, it will probably be safer.

You can make your profile private. I mean, minus my profile picture and my name no one can get any information about me unless they are accepted as a friend by myself. That's pretty good in my opinion. As long as you aren't stupid about your pictures (you doing something illegal such as drinking underage, smoking anything really, etc.) you won't be in much trouble. The only people that would really care about that stuff if they looked you up would be a prospective employer anyways.

I'm talking about hackers and stalkers Josh, not the cops. I've had issues with those things before. Even if your profile is private, if you go through the proper channels I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter. I know that Google will still give snippets of the page, sometimes including the information you seek, even from a private profile.

While I like the fact I can easily direct people to my Facebook page I don't like the fact that you can change your display name. I liked the real names...

Facebook serves no purpose if known people can't search for you.
