What made you head down the path of coding?Well it was actually Ross that inspired me to start coding, at first I just wanted to help people, I still do but while I was helping people to fix codes I started to learn how they worked and over time I ended up being a coder. It was really unplanned for but just happened, and I'm glad it did.
What's the most rewarding part of being a moderator? What's your least favorite part?Well the best part is I get my name in green
Well it's also that I can help people better by locking spammers and updating codes in the database. Another good thing is I get to be part of the staff and know things before most do, and work with them to improve PB. I think the worst part is the responsibility it takes, I'm not as active as I would like to be, but soon I will make a bigger effort.
You have many codes that are being used all across ProBoards. Which one is your favorite and/or most successful? What do you like so much about it?I think my Favorite has been the Slipstream everywhere codes, it's simple very simple but its a really good code for a slightly more advanced layout. I think my next best code will be my Slipstream Everywhere - Fluid which is a bit more advanced then the one on PBS Altv42007 Skin
Is there a big difference between the coding of different softwares? For example, would it be hard to code for SMF if you can code for ProBoards?I think the present day coders can sometimes be too ProBoards adjusted and a new source for a forum system would be hard to adapt to. But not impossible. Most of the older coders are more advanced in their ability and can adapt to most any forum system because they have more experience in understanding how the codes work. My advice to new coders is to make a effort to not just write a code but follow a structure and consistently try optimizing the code for speed. Remember, run time is also very important, if you look at Peter's codes his codes can seem long, but their run time is amazing. That's where the difference is really.
What do you think is one of the most beneficial codes ever made? Why so?
I know its debatable but I think head/base images codes or even Slipstream ones are both easy to use and can make a difference in forums. They are easy codes and they can make sites unique, but there have been several forums that don't even need them and still look great.
Who got you to where you are today coding wise? Did you learn this profession all by yourself or were there some key mentors in the early stages of your learning?Mostly I taught myself...well actually the codes taught me, because I would go over them so I guess credit goes to every coder during my early stages because I would learn by going over their codes. I think Ross was my first mentor, over time I took advice from Chris [CD dude 229] regarding several codes and then finally Peter. Peter has been a key mentor for my more advanced codes and my plans for future codes because he introduced OOP to PBS and then I worked with him on several projects. Overall I think the real key to success is just asking the right questions and being respectable to other coders. It doesn't hurt to say Thank you. I thank them all for their help.
Does coding ever get annoying? Writing lengthy scripts such as a shop code does seem like a lot of work. Is there a "fun" side to coding?Coding requires dedication and a lot of coke. Not the drug, but the drink >.> *blush* Anyways I think making codes CrossBrowser is the annoying part. From what I can tell IE is the hardest to satisfy every different version of IE argues with one another.
Again shop codes and such require dedication and work, sometimes you gt lost in the codes sometimes you lose interest. I think the fun side of coding is when an idea comes in and you can code it simple and fast in a day or so and it all works out. The Slipstream code I wrote one day morning while I was waiting for a download >.> and I'm quite happy that it's used on several forums
List the top 5 Coders on PB. 1 - 2 - 3 Go!
Peter: Well clearly he is a God at coding because he sticks to standards and knows his stuff well.
Ross: How can we not love him and his endless list of codes. No really he fills so many requests he probably doesn't even know how many he has, and he codes them really well.
Chris: I love this guy, he is such a n00b. Well not a n00b but yeah his codes are done really well too, I'm impressed on how he approaches a code, and solves problems, but I must say I want to stab him with a blunt object for his numerous names >.>
Cali: He rocked, always will. I can't even imagine the codes he would have come up with if he was around. I miss him.
I can only name four XD
Where do you think the world wide web will take you in the future? Does Dreggy have a future in coding?Coding has and always be just a hobby for me. I think when you mix it into work you lose track of things sometimes. If I do ever work I would love it to be for OpenSource projects and non-profit organizations like Mozilla for the Firefox project. I will however work with a few Designer friends like Slip to make some great templates that will come soon hopefully.
