Well guys, I am here to introduce you to Zephyyr, a great new member who has a promising artistic talent. Take a look at some of her work at zephyyr.deviantart.com , or you can just look here!
Well, let's kick this off by asking about your name. Is Zephyyr your real name?
No, I wish. It's just a username I like to use. My name is really Alyssa Cooper.
How old are you?
I'm 17.
What country are you from and currently reside in?
I'm from Canada; born, raised and desperate to escape.
Tell me a little about yourself. What do you do for a living? Do you live on your own?
Well right now, I don't have a steady job. I have purple hair and live in a small town, so no one really wants to hire me. So I sell my art for extra cash. I'm living with my parents right now, but I'm moving out in September, since I'll be going to University then. Hopefully I'll be living with a couple friends of mine, and it'll be a good time.
Being a pencil artist/painter must bring forth challenges. What do you do to get your inspiration? Have you had any disasters relating to your career?
There's challenges in every type of art. I can't count the times I've smudged a drawing, or smeared a painting, and just thrown it out rather than trying to salvage it.
My inspiration though, mostly just comes from what's happening around me at the time. From how I'm feeling. If something bad happens to me, I just weigh my options; I can lock myself in my room and cry, I can eat a pound of chocolate, or I can draw something.
I can throw some paint around. My art has kept me from self-destructing many times. There's been some rough patches here and there, where I lose my muse, or I can't get something right, or my media starts working against me. I've always come through it. Art has been a part of my life too long to give up now.
One thing I have noticed about your fabulous work, is how a majority of your sketches are of women. Is this significant, or am I just being stupid?
I didn't really notice this until someone pointed it out this year at school, but I guess it really is true. It's not a conscious thing, but thinking about it now, I think it's all in the anatomy. Male bodies are strong and sharp. They have too many angles. The lines don't flow the same, and trying to draw them, it disturbs my eye. Women are soft and curved, they're in need of some kind of protection, there's so much more to do with them. I think it's really just personal preference though; I've seen some amazing artworks with men as the main figures.
Is this a career that you would plan on pursuing outside of college?
Of course. I can't imagine doing anything else. In September I'm going to University to study studio art and art history. After that, I want to open my own studio. I want to get my name out there; I have so much inside me to share, it seems selfish to keep it inside.
What is your . . .
- Favorite Color?
Lime green. Especially when it's put with black.
- Favorite Movie?
The Crow.
- Favorite Reading Genre?
Literary fiction.
What is a few interesting tidbits about yourself that we would appreciate knowing?
I'm actually a pretty boring person, to be honest, there's not much to say. I'm a vegetarian. I'm engaged to the most amazing guy. I spend too much time on the internet. I like to think that I was a faerie in another lifetime. I guess that's all.
