A slip on the title page-it says that I wrote "One Type of Art". That was Obsidian.

E will have to fix that. And you guys, the Herald is very short this month, due to very unforeseen obstacles, a lot of us, and I mean a lot, had to back out on articles at the last minute. I hate doing that, 'cause it means less and less with the Herald being jammed packed. Hopefully once things settle down a bit more, everything will start getting more consistent.

I miss Forum quotes ='[ They remind me of good times =] I feel like we haven't had them in forever. May I inquire as to why?

People volunteer for them and find they have no time. That and there has been very few submitted recently.

I'm sorry guys, but I have to say being an editor/admin/etc. of something means you have to know when to rethink things, like staffing of the articles, if there should even be an issue this month, etc. etc. The last three issues have been really short and maybe doing a bi-monthly one or a every 3 month one would be better.
Hopefully that was "constructive" enough... this isn't a post to make people mad, but maybe hopefully you will realize what I'm trying to say.

Agreed - but at the same time they can't control if a person says they'll be writing, expect it, and it never comes. I guess a bi-monthly helps though, but the monthly news round ups will be missed. (was one even included in August - not sure.)

I can quite happily "fire" all of the writers who fail to hand in their articles but then who would write them in their place? Bi-Monthly solves nothing, still have the same issues over at PV and it's always one of three people who picks up the slack for everyone else. Unfortunately we don't have one of those writers over here any more and both Kay and myself have little time as it is. Articles get left til the last minute and then people pull out. It's bad time management more than anything and that I'm afraid we can't solve. You can give people all the time in the world but if they're bad at organising and something in real life comes up, that is always going to mean that the articles don't get turned in. We do need more writers though to lower the pressure. I can't really talk because I know I don't write as much as I used to, but I never promise to do more than I can manage, which is where I think we're going wrong (despite during the requesting process you can choose how many you can handle). The last three issues have been short for all the same reasons, I was hoping that as summer came along writers would find more time but obviously it's going in the opposite direction. If you have any ideas then please do post them. We're all ears.

Great Issue! It was short , again , but I still believe in you! Maybe , we can get like a group of writers to fill in for the main writers if they can't do their articles. Fire the inactive writers who fail to write their articles for 3 months or more. I am clueless.

Fire the inactive writers who fail to write their articles for 3 months or more. I am clueless. No matter what we do, there are going to be repeated months where we fall short of what is usually expected of us. Letting people go who are inactive for three months won't solve a problem, as we might bring on a different writer who falls into the same situation. Problems arise, and due to circumstances the editors cannot control, people are unable to write articles. Short months are expected. There's nothing that really can be done. It's better to publish something than nothing. While I personally haven't been able to pick up my share of the slack the past couple of months, I think the past few issues have still been great. Wonderful writing, as always, and well put together. Kudos to those who got their stuff in.

Why don't you guys just have a gigantic staff? That way the Herald is always nice and big? You know, if someone doesn't do their article there are like three more people WITH articles. I do think cutting people is good though. They shouldn't have taken the responsibility if they couldn't handle it. Anyways.

We just want the Herald to have quality to it as well. A lot of articles are nice, but not if they're of REALLY poor quality. And part of it is not putting too much work on the editors, which is why there's a screening I think. Personally, I'm a quality over quanity type person. It doesn't have to be big to be good.
And we all get the "Oh there's still two weeks" syndrome, since real life tends to come first so we put the Herald off, trying to find spare time for it. And lately Murphey's Law has been screwing everyone over and throwing unexpected errors in the way from loss of a home to lack of a computer to school. So a lot of the time people think that they can do the articles, and something pops up that wasn't expected at all.
Give us a bit of time, we're starting to get back in sync. ^^

Has anyone thought of "Themed" herald perhaps would help getting articles out if people knew what to write about. Sometimes its the idea of what to write about that throws people off the track - though maybe you can do half themed like this article had a lot of photography things about it.
