Solidsnake Designs has had an impressive run over the years. We have lasted through seven innovative versions and been the connector between many fledgling artists. We can only hope that now, as Solidsnake Designs is laid to rest, it will be remembered fondly in the hearts of those who found resources, inspiration, and even a friend or two.

We really need to revive this site.. It used to be amazing, coming in here everyday finding new and exciting posts, photographs, images, poems, stories, etc.
Im still checking in everyday. If anyone has any ideas on saving/reviving this place. Drop me a line on MSN (cmatheson1@gmail.com)
holy shit, so thats who that is I've had the address on msn for a long time, and I always thought it was somebody from a game I used to play or something
Bobby, it does not take a goddamn colored name to make people want to talk. If you want to prove it, ask Oliver to paint your profile and we'll see how it goes. Our community stopped pulling in new members ages ago. Now, our entire community is based around the exact same people it has always been based around-- the good 'ole boys who have moved on and now have priorities that are higher than SSD. Those people, as wonderful as it is to say hi when they come around, can no longer sustain SSD. And without everyone bringing their friends here - without everyone making SSD a place that others want to be around - and without [/b]everyone[/b] getting over SSD's whole "too famous to advertise" attitude, no amount of administrators or staff can do a damn thing.
The staff can put up community practices, contests, sotw's... until they're blue in the face. We can post 10 Chillout threads a day and comment until our fingers are numb.
It will just continue to come out like it always did for Kay - and frankly, whether or not Kay was an admin, the reason she kept activity up as much as she did was really just being the activity. She could still do that as a member, if she wanted. You could do that as a member, if you wanted. Anyone could.
But really, the only people that give a damn about this place anymore are the ones who want to complain about it.
---
I apologize to anyone I let down by being an "absentee administrator." I could explain why I wasn't around, but no one really cares for excuses. If I let anyone down, I'm sorry. I came back to help Kay out and then got caught up believing I owed it to this community to keep SSD from just flat-out closing down.
I'm pretty sure now that I don't owe SSD anything.

You know, you could start taking antiandrogen's. They're testosterone blockers. I've been on them for four weeks now and have noticed a huge difference. Testosterone controls where your body distributes fat at, and if you block it, it doesn't do it's job, and you start looking less guy-ish. I'm going to start taking my hormones soon. Should be good.

If you guys can somehow manage to revive it, that'd be awesome. But it's lacking some serious activity and interest, so good luck. If you need me, I'll pop in every once in a while, but for the most part I'll be on my own (new) forum managing it and getting it off the ground.

People should get off their high horses here; you don't have to have an administrator title to post on this place, and posting is its lifeblood.
If that's the case then SSD is currently in hypovolemic shock. And while it doesn't take an administrator title to post around here it does take said title to actually spark up the community. Especially when you consider how one can count SSD's staff on a single hand. And that occured because of the transition from Kay to the time-proven-combo Oliver/UC; even if the UC half of that was only for a month.
Also its not your member base who posted about change and there being "huge steps for more activity." Huge steps that failed abysmally, mind you. If it is possible at all SSD's activity has only decreased since Kay left.
So I'll repeat what I said before: This game of musical chairs worked out amazingly well.

Closing the forum to posting will help preserve the forum, even in its current, decrepit state of being. People would slowly but surely start posting things that would degrade the facade and history of this forum.
It was a pleasure to have once been a part of the staff that helped run the forum. Having been here since version three, I have witnessed much of the forum's happenings. However, all things must come to an end and now it is the time for SSD to pass. It seems like SSD has been around forever, and for many of us, we grew with the forum, but it's time to move on. Like Mitch said, SSD had a purpose, and it has fulfilled it.
That's pointless, why have a forum when you can't post?
Solely for archival purposes. SSD has been around for a long time and there's a lot of history in these threads. Why would that get thrown away?
On the flip side, you don't want to leave SSD open to posting once it's officially closed. At that point you're running a high risk of seeing random people post crap they shouldn't and then report it as against ProBoards TOS. And in the end SSD ends up deleted anyways. Thus defeating the entire point.
Just made a new theme with some of the craziest SMF features in existence. You need to login to really get the full scope of things but some are available for guests.
Fully custom graphics + coding, took two months of developing.

I for one am comfortable saying that I saw this coming for a while. I mean SSD was the shit back in its heyday, but now it's sickening to see how low it has sunk. I would love to see it survive, but as Saknika stated...I won't be holding my breath.
It's been an honor being able to serve as a Gmod on such a prestigious forum. I love you all
Hit me up on MSN: anti@armtheflag.com
I'll be hovering around until the admins show up and we can all figure out what we are going to do.
There's no need for deletion. There's no need for maintenance mode. Leave this place open. It's a great reminder of all the good times. I learned a lot here. I met some amazing people. This place gave me purpose during those long, jobless summers.
Deletion or maintenance mode may or may not be necassary. If Oliver or Car decide to remember that they're administrators here then perhaps they should take into consideration:
1. Disabling new registrations. 2. Disabling posting in all boards (perhaps with the exception of Chillout)
Only issue that concerns me is the liklihood of people posting crap that violates the TOS, waiting a couple of weeks and then reporting it to ProBoards. I wouldn't expect Saknika or Net to continue their jobs as GMods at what would be an officially closed message board. And with two absentee administrators that won't go over well.

I hate to say it, but this place is pretty dead. A miracle could happen, and it could come back, but I won't be holding my breath.
This. It's been in an increasing coma for months now, and the few active members that are left (how many, like... five? >.>) can keep thinking it will come back... good luck with that. I'd love to see it happen, but it's pretty much gone. I'll stick around and see if things get better, but I doubt we'll see said miracle.
Edit; Though I suppose we can always increase activity by arguing about whether the forum is dead or not. We could also add a few forum games, like Where's That Admin?

Not quite melodrama-Stating the facts. Believe what you must, but it bothers me to live in the delusion that one day SSD will suddenly become active again. It's ridiculous. You say you've been coming to SSD for a long time. That's the keyword. A long time was all you needed to say. Although I have to say this post has stirred up a little activity If it's controversial enough people flock, I suppose. Perhaps someone should make a "WHENS V8 GONNA GET HERE???" thread hahaha

...Stop with the melodrama...
friggin emo's...
I've been coming to this forum for a long time, and I can honestly say, It wont die...ever. Like most things in life, it has its ups and downs, what good comes from those ups or downs, is what people make of them. <3

Meh. It was dying long before version 7. We've been beating a dead horse with all this "it's a phase it'll pass" nonsense. Sure a few people will post. It's great we can be that faithful. But the fact is it's not gonna get any better. I'm not giving up; giving up is quitting before the end arrives-The end came and went. SSD has had a great run but I personally think it's about time for the old maintenance mode or even deletion so we can move on to bigger and better things. It's lived a full forum's life. It really has. It's just not gonna get any better. We've been saying that for 3 years now. People swore that with v7 people would flock--they came, ooohed and ahed, and left. The only thing I can think of to help it along is really to become Solid Snake Chillout or something because honestly we have no more potential as a staple design community. It was fun while it lasted, remember the good times, the great people we met, but we can still talk to them in a different environment. SSD will always be one of the greatest forums on the internet-but it's time to throw in the towel guys.

I went to Maine, mostly; a lot of time is spent studying & working here. All free time is spent checking essential services (E-mail, FaceBook) then more spare time is spent (posting) on the forums I visit and check every now and again, but I'll post when I have time.
